The Taaleem Secondary Individuals & Societies (I&S) / Global Politics Teacher inspires students through outstanding teaching, intellectual curiosity, creativity, innovation, compassion, and a commitment to lifelong learning. The teacher fosters an inclusive, inquiry-driven learning environment where students critically examine political systems, power, governance, human rights, globalisation, sustainability, identity, conflict, and international cooperation. Through engaging learning experiences, students develop as informed, ethical, and globally minded citizens who can analyse complex issues from multiple perspectives while reflecting Taaleem’s values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality teaching in Individuals & Societies and Global Politics, adapting instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning profiles of all students.

  • Inspire students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and responsible global citizens through the exploration of contemporary political, social, economic, and environmental issues.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that promote conceptual understanding, research, debate, collaboration, and evidence-based argument.

  • Develop students' understanding of key Global Politics concepts, including power, sovereignty, governance, democracy, human rights, development, peace and conflict, global governance, and political participation.

  • Encourage students to evaluate multiple perspectives, recognise bias, analyse sources critically, and construct well-supported arguments using qualitative and quantitative evidence.

  • Integrate current affairs, international case studies, and local, regional, and global contexts to make learning relevant and meaningful.

  • Use a variety of teaching strategies, digital technologies, simulations, discussions, Model United Nations approaches, and collaborative learning experiences to enhance student engagement.

  • Assess, monitor, record, and report student progress using formative and summative assessment practices that provide timely, constructive feedback.

  • Foster independent inquiry, academic honesty, ethical research practices, and reflective learning.

  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom where students confidently discuss complex and sometimes sensitive political and social issues with empathy and respect.

  • Manage student behaviour fairly and consistently in accordance with school policies, promoting respectful dialogue and responsible participation.

  • Support students' academic, personal, social, moral, and intercultural development while encouraging active citizenship and civic responsibility.

  • Communicate professionally with parents and other stakeholders regarding student progress, wellbeing, and academic development.

  • Contribute to school improvement initiatives, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, extracurricular programmes such as Model United Nations, debate, service learning, or student leadership, and wider community events.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary learning experiences and share innovative teaching practices.

  • Maintain confidentiality, uphold safeguarding responsibilities, and promote the highest standards of academic integrity.

Professional Development & Curriculum Responsibilities
  • Continuously develop subject knowledge in Individuals & Societies, Global Politics, international relations, political science, and contemporary global issues.
