Role Context The Humanities Teacher will help students develop a deeper understanding of people, societies, cultures, places and significant events while building critical thinking, communication and independent learning skills. The role requires strong subject knowledge together with the ability to make lessons relevant, accessible and challenging for students across different ability levels. The position also contributes to the wider academic and pastoral life of the school.
Through consistent assessment, reflective teaching and close collaboration with colleagues and families, the teacher will support both academic progress and the broader development of each learner.
- Plan and deliver high-quality humanities lessons aligned with curriculum expectations.
- Create stimulating learning experiences that inspire curiosity, analysis and active participation.
- Adapt classroom activities to support students across the full ability range.
- Organize learning resources and displays to maintain an engaging educational environment.
- Use imaginative teaching approaches to motivate students and deepen subject understanding.
- Take responsibility for the progress and attainment of assigned classes.
- Observe and assess students in line with school assessment procedures.
- Record student development accurately using Target Tracker and other approved systems.
- Use assessment data to refine future planning, provision and intervention.
- Provide appropriate academic challenge and support according to individual student needs.
- Give students timely and constructive feedback on their progress.
- Communicate achievement and wellbeing clearly to parents and carers.
- Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences and other student progress meetings.
- Build positive professional relationships with students and maintain appropriate authority.
- Apply the school 's behaviour policy consistently and fairly.
- Promote self-control, independence and responsible learning habits.
- Model the attitudes, values and conduct expected throughout the school community.
- Work alongside teaching colleagues to plan engaging curriculum content and shared learning activities.
- Collaborate with curriculum support staff to address individual learning needs.
- Liaise with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists when required.
- Embed the school 's Teacher and Learner DNA expectations throughout classroom practice.
- Participate in curriculum action groups covering planning, resources, assessment and special events.
- Use CPOMS and related school systems appropriately when communicating matters affecting student wellbeing.
- Support school trips, events, activities and enrichment opportunities.
- Contribute to activities that may occasionally take place during evenings or weekends.
- Lead a weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
- Reflect on teaching effectiveness and adjust classroom strategies where improved outcomes can be achieved.
- Maintain safeguarding responsibilities and support a safe, respectful learning environment.
Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant humanities subject together with a PGCE or another recognized teaching qualification. A minimum of 1-2 years of teaching experience is required. Applicants should demonstrate successful classroom practice and the ability to deliver humanities content to students with different learning profiles.
