Job DescriptionThe Directed Energy Research Center (DERC) seeks a Lead Metamaterial Researcher to integrate the Stealth Division within the Electromagnetic R&D Department. The role may involve occasional overseas travel for conferences, supplier visits, training, and other related duties.
Responsibilities- Provide technical guidance and support across multiple projects, focusing on metamaterial‑based solutions for Radar Cross‑Section (RCS) reduction or enhancement; oversee EM simulations, measurement techniques, and performance analysis.
- Develop solutions that meet specific performance requirements for RCS reduction or enhancement.
- Manage the prototyping process, refine designs based on test results, and guide projects from concept to final manufacturing; optimize designs for performance and reliability.
- Lead efforts to explore new applications and enhance existing designs for stealth technology.
- Generate detailed technical reports and maintain accurate documentation throughout all project phases.
- Present findings, progress updates, and recommendations to stakeholders and project teams.
- Promote open dialogue and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Participate in cross‑disciplinary discussions within the DERC activity domain.
- Execute other related duties as assigned, supporting the overall objectives of the division.
- Strong background in electromagnetic theory and wave propagation.
- Expertise in metamaterial design, prototyping, and testing.
- Knowledge of radar cross‑section analysis (preferred).
- Solid foundation in circuit theory.
- Proficiency in using RF test equipment, including network analyzers, antennas, and related instrumentation.
- Experience with simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, CST, or equivalent software.
- Experience in testing within an anechoic chamber (preferred).
- Proficiency in signal processing languages such as Python or MATLAB (preferred).
- Proven experience in leading projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Engineer's or master's degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of full‑time experience in electromagnetics, circuit theory, or related technologies.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience in metamaterial design, prototyping, or testing.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
