WSP is seeking an experienced Associate – Bridges & Tunnels to support and lead the delivery of bridge and tunnel design projects in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with growing leadership and client‑facing responsibilities, contributing to both project delivery and the development of WSP’s structural capability in the Emirate.

This role is suited to a well‑established bridges engineer with proven experience working with Abu Dhabi‑based clients and authorities, who is ready to take on increased ownership of projects and teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the design delivery of bridge and tunnel projects across concept, preliminary, and detailed design stages
  • Undertake and review complex structural design and analysis in accordance with Abu Dhabi and UAE standards
  • Coordinate and manage design inputs from multidisciplinary teams, ensuring technical integration and consistency
  • Support and lead authority submissions, addressing comments and ensuring timely approvals
  • Interface directly with Abu Dhabi clients and authorities, providing technical advice and design leadership
  • Review and approve design calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications prepared by the project team
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and oversight to senior and junior engineers
  • Identify technical risks and constraints and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Support value engineering initiatives and design optimisation to improve cost‑effectiveness and constructability
  • Assist Project Managers with programme planning, resourcing, and quality management
  • Contribute to bid preparation, technical proposals, and early‑stage project development
  • Ensure all work is delivered in line with WSP’s quality management systems, safety standards, and sustainability commitments
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in bridges and tunnels design within a consultancy environment
  • Demonstrated experience delivering Abu Dhabi‑based bridge projects and working with local authorities
  • Strong working knowledge of AASHTO, Eurocodes, UK Standards, and applicable UAE / Abu Dhabi guidelines
  • Proven ability to lead packages of work and manage design teams
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard structural and bridge design software (e.g. MIDAS, LUSAS, RM Bridge, CSI Bridge, or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership (ICE, IStruct

    E, or equivalent)
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skills
  • Fluent in English;
    Arabic is an advantage
