Purpose

The Advanced Inspection Technologies Manager is responsible for leading inspection and metrology technology strategy, inspection methods development, and quality readiness during New Product Introduction (NPI) for Powertech’s propulsion programs, including turbofan, microjet, and piston engines.

This role owns inspection-related activities during NPI and First Article Inspection (FAI) phases, ensuring inspection systems, methods, and supplier capabilities are fully validated prior to handover to serial production. The position works in close collaboration with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, EPI, suppliers, and equipment vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead Powertech’s inspection and metrology technology roadmap aligned with propulsion program needs.
  • Lead capital investment planning for advanced inspection equipment (e.g., CMM, optical systems, laser scanning, CT, in-process gauging, automation).
  • Ensure inspection technology decisions made during NPI enable required quality at optimal part cost and production rate.
  • Own inspection and metrology activities during NPI from prototype through FAI approval.
  • Define inspection concepts, datum strategies, tolerance verification approaches, and measurement plans for new parts and assemblies.
  • Lead planning, execution coordination, and approval of FAI packages until production release.
  • Ensure inspection processes are capable, repeatable, and ready for production handover.

Design for Inspectability & Concurrent Engineering

  • Actively support concurrent engineering by influencing design for inspectability, tolerances, and datum schemes.
  • Provide inspection and metrology input during design reviews, tolerance trade studies, and configuration decisions.
  • Identify and mitigate inspection-related risks early in the development cycle.

Supplier Inspection Readiness & NPI Quality Support

  • Lead supplier inspection readiness during NPI, including review and approval of supplier inspection plans and FAI documentation.
  • Coordinate resolution of supplier inspection and FAI issues during development and early production.
  • Define incoming inspection strategies, sampling approaches, and inspection methods for production.

Inspection Documentation & Handover

  • Define and validate inspection work instructions, control plans, and inspection strategies during NPI and FAI.
  • Lead structured handover of approved inspection systems, methods, documentation, and capability data to EPI Quality.

Leadership & Governance

  • Build, lead, and mentor the Advanced Inspection Technologies team.
  • Establish inspection standards, best practices, and governance aligned with aerospace quality requirements.
  • Act as Powertech’s focal point for inspection and metrology across propulsion programs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Metrology Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace inspection, metrology, manufacturing, or industrialization.
  • Proven experience leading inspection systems during NPI, FAI, and production readiness.
  • Strong expertise in GD&T, datum systems, measurement uncertainty, and inspection capability.
  • Experience working with suppliers, inspection equipment vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
