Job Purpose
To supervise and perform physical and chemical tests on aviation fuels, general fuels, and related products crossing the UAE borders adhering to international specifications and/or other approved standards. To align the testing of fuel and other related products to support the Government and Organization Strategy, ISO requirements and balanced scorecard objectives.
Job Responsibilities- Supervise and direct the work of the Laboratory Technician and the Laboratory Assistant, monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with testing and safety procedures.
- Carry out laboratory activities such as routine and non‑routine testing and analysis of general, industrial, and aviation fuels, ensuring adherence to standard and established procedures and accurate results in accordance with company specifications.
- Perform special tests involving advanced techniques or modifications to traditional methods to ensure product compliance.
- Review and prepare test reports, ensuring proper distribution, and use the Online Quality Control System to complete standard reports.
- Visit ADNOC terminals, depots, airports, and other customer storage facilities to verify compliance with quality control procedures and recommend immediate action when problems arise.
- Test and control the qualities of imported products (drum or bulk) or received from the refinery and sold by ADNOC Distribution to ensure specifications meet prescribed standards.
- Provide solutions and recommendations to adjust products in case of contamination or failures in particular tests.
- Train and guide laboratory staff on testing methods, new equipment, and maintain the team's highest proficiency standards.
- Supervise calibration and verification of laboratory equipment and testing facilities, maintain records, plan and supervise analysis schedules, and report deviations.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date laboratory documentation system, including procedures, manuals, product specifications, and schedules of analyses.
- Prepare and maintain Statistical Quality Control (SQC) charts to verify and monitor performance.
- Manage laboratory data input to the ADNOC Distribution Management System, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide solutions and recommendations for off‑spec product adjustments and utilisation of non‑moving products in consultation with the Department Manager Product Quality Control & Laboratory.
- Prepare an annual procurement plan for chemical materials and other testing supplies within a set budget (OPEX).
- Ensure reliability of laboratory equipment and avoid delays on analysis timelines, providing timely submittals.
- Maintain standby and backup testing facilities in case of breakdown.
- Initiate purchase requisitions, follow up on orders, handle GRN, and participate in vendor pre‑qualification processes to ensure cost‑effective product and service procurement.
- Control inventory of chemicals, apparatus, equipment, glassware, ensuring clean, orderly, and safe conditions; prepare requisitions for chemicals and materials when required.
- Maintain ISO documentation, participate in internal audits, and present work to Manager for approval.
- Coordinate with Senior Chemist and Department Manager, implement testing of samples received from ASTM Proficiency Testing Programs or from other laboratories.
- Perform related duties as requested, including covering for the Senior Chemist when needed.
- Participate in seminars and industrial exhibitions, recommend disposal of contaminated products.
- Conduct in‑house technical training courses for department staff and customers.
- Prepare monthly performance reports and biannual fuel specifications.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry.
- 6 years of experience in a similar role in the Oil and Gas industry.
- Diverse knowledge of chemical and physical analyses for crude oil, fuels, and related products, including ASTM, IP, and other applicable test methods.
