About Emirates Global Aluminium

Emirates Global Aluminium is the world’s biggest ‘premium aluminium’ producer and the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside the oil and gas industry. EGA is an integrated aluminium producer, with operations on four continents from bauxite mining to the production of cast primary aluminium and recycling. EGA employs over 7,000 of these people including more than 1,200 UAE Nationals.

EGA operates aluminium smelters in Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah in the United Arab Emirates, an alumina refinery in Al Taweelah, a bauxite mine and associated export facilities in the Republic of Guinea, a speciality foundry in high strength recycled aluminium in Germany, and a recycling plant in the United States.

JOB PURPOSE:
To monitor and assist in the effective implementation of the localised EGA’s corporate Environment control/protection strategic plans, policies and programs across the assigned plant operations in order to ensure adherence with world class Environment control/protection practices in accord with international / local legislation and standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Policies, Processes & Procedures
Implements approved departmental, policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of the Environment department so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are adhered to while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.
Day-to-Day Operations
Supervises the implementation of the day-to-day operations assigned for the Environment department to ensure they comply with established policies, processes and procedures.
Investigation & Reporting
Supervises the effective implementation of the incident investigation process and undertakes as necessary investigations and reporting of Environment incidents (in conjunction with appropriate agencies - where required) in a timely and correct manner and make recommendations as a result of the outcome of such incidents.

Conducts environmental impact assessments for project and operational activities.

Develops, reviews, and implements the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) management program, including GHG data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Conducts internal GHG assurance audits and supports the preparation of facilities for third‑party GHG audits.

Stays abreast of international and regional regulations related to emissions, waste management, water and wastewater, and GHG to ensure alignment with compliance standards.

Training & Embedment
Plan, organise and conduct a wide range of Environment training courses to all levels within the organisation to promote Environment awareness and reduce the number and severity of Environment incidents.
Maintenance, Testing & Inspection
Control and coordinate all maintenance and testing of Environment protection systems throughout the plant to ensure their operational readiness.
Develop and initiate routine evaluations of the workplace, as required advising on all aspects of Environment precautions to identify any areas of non-conformance with local regulatory requirements and internationally accepted standards and recommend solutions to ensure compliance.
Be familiar with the local regulatory requirements and International Standards.
Safety, Quality & Environment
Complies with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
People Management
Supervises the activities and work of subordinates by providing formal and informal feedback to ensure that all work within the Environment department is carried out in an efficient manner and in accordance with company policies/ procedures and set individual targets.
Related Assignments
Performs other related duties or assignments as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or Related field

Minimum Experience:

5-7 years’ experience in similar role in a large industry preferably in an Aluminium Industry.

Skills:
Strong Experience in relationship building with government agencies is preferred
Exposure to ISO systems
Ability to draft standard operating procedures proposals and procedures,
Reading and interpreting laws, rules and regulations, communicating both orally and in writing sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Ability to organize and complete tasks,
Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic (preferred)
Proven ability in the writing of documents such as minutes of meetings,
Strong computer competency and related skills,
