Senior System Engineer; Railway System Integration Manager

Role Summary
The Railway Senior System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems. The successful candidate will join the RINA team as Railway Integration Manager, leading the System Engineering team and collaborating with other System Engineering and System Assurance Experts and Managers to ensure the full successful integration of the systems involved in the development and construction of the whole railway system.
KeyAccountabilities
- A. System Design & Architecture Defining and managing railway system scenarios, requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply). Selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects. Managing the interface development by the subsystems and coordinating the verification and validation of all interfaces throughout the project lifecycle up to interface final closure.
- B. System Integration Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems and interfaces (rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure). Validating system compatibility across national and international requirements and standards (e.g. EN, NFPA). Ensuring performance and functionalities for all foreseen scenarios for the railway system. Managing the correct integration of the system with all external stakeholders, ensuring the correct finalization of interfaces and applicable authorization processes.
- C. Performance Optimization Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability.
- D. Verification & Validation Ensuring railway systems adhere to the performance and characteristics required by the project requirements, standards, and laws. Defining and monitoring the execution of the V&V plan.
- E. Lifecycle Management Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects. Supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity.
- F. Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation. Working with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring, and Smart Signaling technologies.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in integration/system engineering for railway systems.
- Experience focusing on sustainability in trackway systems and infrastructure design, construction, and operation.
- Rolling Stock (Locomotives, EMUs, DMUs, High-Speed Trains).
- Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking).
- Electrification (25kV AC, 750V DC, 3kV DC systems).
- Track Infrastructure (Standard gauge, High-Speed Rail, Light Rail, Metro).
- Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure.
- Managing mixed traffic operations (High-speed, freight, commuter trains).
- CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety).
- ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System).
- IEC 62290 (Urban Rail Control Systems).
- UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions).
- Systems Engineering: DOORS, Enterprise Architect.
- Failure & Safety Analysis:
Relia Soft, FMECA, FTA Tools. - Electrical & Mechanical Design: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA.
- Project Management & Lifecycle Management:
Working with V-Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies. Managing large-scale railway system deployment projects.
