Assistant Resident Engineer - Electrical

Job Description Overview

This senior engineering role is responsible for supervising and managing electrical infrastructure projects, particularly in transmission and distribution systems. The Assistant Resident Engineer ensures quality execution, regulatory compliance, and coordination across disciplines with a strong focus on safety, risk management, and technical excellence.

• Supervise works to ensure proper sequencing and required quality as per contract documents.
• Perform and approve all site activities, conduct day‑to‑day inspections, and attend pre‑commissioning and commissioning tests, alignments, and other key activities.
• Issue site memos and provide pre‑engineering (PRE) coordination for interdisciplinary activities.
• Monitor and report progress of work to stakeholders.
• Coordinate with inspectors to ensure works comply with Quality Control Plans and Inspection Test Plans; confirm all supporting documentation is complete and records are accurate.
• Supervise and follow up on site tests, working with the Quantity Surveyor to review contractor monthly invoices.
• Work with the QA/QC Engineer to maintain agreed QC levels and proper documentation.
• Ensure practicable HSE measures are taken with the contractor HSE team to protect the health, safety and environment of all personnel.
• Maintain direct contact with TRANSCO & C Department for commissioning activities and liaison with PRE & RE.
• Know all work packages, maintain awareness of construction schedules, and ensure timely completion on schedule.
• Verify implementation of risk responses, identify new risks and address them promptly.

• Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (B.E.) or equivalent in Engineering from a recognized university.
• Graduates with a Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Communication Engineering with a minimum of three years of relevant experience will also be considered.
• Degree must be certified by the Ministry of Higher Education.
• Minimum experience:
  
  7+ years for engineering degree holders; 9+ years for diploma holders, preferably with consulting experience.
• Successful completion of a previous project of similar type and scope.
• Field experience in transmission/distribution power systems: high, medium and low voltage switchgears, power transformers, protection & control systems, auxiliary power (110V & 48V DC, LV‑AC), instrumentation and control (DCS, SCADA, Telecom).
• Installation of cables and cable ways, stringing of OHL conductors/OPGW, testing and commissioning of transformers, switchgears, protection & control systems and telecom systems.
• Familiarity with TRANSCO specifications and HSE monitoring.
