The Railway System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.
The Railway System Engineer will join the RINA team as Interface Engineer in order to be part of national and international railway projects. His scope covers the entire lifecycle of railway projects, from concept to operation and maintenance. The successful candidate will have previous experience in requirements, interface and configuration management.
Key Accountabilities- Defining and managing railway system requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply).
- Selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects.
- B. System Integration
- Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure.
- Validating system compatibility across national and international railway networks (e.g., ERTMS, CBTC, PTC).
- C. Performance Optimization
- Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability.

- Defining and monitoring the execution of the V&V plan.
- E. Lifecycle Management
- Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects.
- Supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity.
- F. Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies
- Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation.
- Working with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring, and Smart Signaling technologies.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in system engineering for railway domain projects
- Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking)
- Requirements and Configuration management
- Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure
- Managing mixed traffic operations (High-speed, freight, commuter trains)
- CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety)
- ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System)
- UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions)
- Failure & Safety Analysis:
Relia Soft, FMECA, FTA Tools - Electrical & Mechanical Design: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA
- Working with V-Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies
