Senior Engineer, Maintenance (Instrument & Control)
Job PurposeProvide expert engineering technical support to ensure and continuously enhance the performance of a wide range of instrument & control systems such as Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, Turbine Control Systems, Antisurge and Load Share Control Systems, Machine Monitoring Systems and Process Control Instrumentation and ensure that they are operated and maintained in line with world‑class practices and standards in the plant.
Key Responsibilities- Develop scope of work for major overhauls of instrument & control systems & service work orders, coordinate implementation with other sections.
- Participate and assist as required in the upgrading of maintenance procedures to meet changing or additional requirements. Prepare and compile work and instructional procedures for the control systems.
- Establish and maintain instrument section QMS requirements to meet internal and external audits.
- Carry out root cause analysis and investigation into system problems and failures. Coordinate with vendors and other departments to identify ‘bad actors’ and develop solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
- Monitor the performance of the Alarm Management System (AMS) and continuously update the plant model parameters.
- Assist and provide technical support to users in all process automation systems such as SCADA, Fire & Gas and all interface systems to the DCS.
- Diagnose, analyse and carry out root cause failure analysis, highlight reasons for equipment failure and advise on remedial measures to avoid failures. Study and carry out residual life assessment of critical instrument and control equipment and suggest corrective action to be initiated by respective area engineers.
- Review and recommend spare parts, non‑stock material and tools requirements to allow proper maintenance of the plant and raise purchase requests, spare parts lists amendment proposals to meet requirements.
- Provide support to technical/minor projects for developing scope, execution & commission and evaluation of project documents.
- Initiate and review plant change requests as per company procedure to equipment, units and plants.
- Conduct site engineering studies to determine the feasibility of introducing modifications and incorporate the same to increase reliability and efficiency of plant.
- Carry out periodical review and advice on updating material stock and direct revision of specifications in light of information from manufacturers including deletion of obsolete and incorporation of new items, ensure availability of spares & materials.
- Carry out OT security related activities and ensure OT security control measures are implemented.
- Prepare section resource requirement estimates on assigned shutdowns.
- Lead / participate in technical studies, HAZOP, SIF, review of existing maintenance, inputs to maintenance standards, design general specification documents etc.
- Optimize field instrument and control system PM frequencies, job plan review, criticality assessment.
- Ensure implementation of PCN network security policies and maintain the compliance.
- Review and ensure that HSECES job plans are appropriate, available and properly assigned for all PMs in Maximo and ensure the data quality.
- Participate in defining the technical requirements, technical bid evaluation and inspection of materials on receipt to ensure specifications and required quality.
- Monitor the performance of contractors for the assigned works to ensure quality and standards.
- Prepare HIRA, raise temporary concession and permanent management of change (minor and major) as per plant operation requirements.
Bachelor’s degree is a MUST. Minimum overall 15+ years of experience in execution of EPC contracts in the oil & gas industry of which minimum 8 years in maintenance of instrument & control systems within a large industrial organization. Experience in gas processing/NGL & EPC/detail engineering project. Deep knowledge of implementation & maintenance of instrument & control engineering function's policies. Sound knowledge of design for in‑house engineered works including drawings, specifications/data sheets, and international codes & standards and best engineering practices.
Knowledge of CMMS (SAP/Maximo). Demonstrated skills in the commissioning, operation and maintenance of control systems. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of HSE procedures & practices. Planning and organizing, scheduling and coordinating, checking, examining and recording. Must have handled mega oil & gas FEED/EPC projects (more than 1 billion US$).
