Senior Secondary Engineer

Responsibilities

• Support and manage all secondary engineering activities from project initiation through final As-Built documentation in strict accordance with TAQA TRANSMISSION and DEWA standards, project specifications, and internal QA/QC and HSE requirements.
• Design protection and control systems, SCADA telecom integrations, interface engineering, and provide technical support during erection, testing, and commissioning.
• Assist the Lead Engineer in reviewing protection single-line diagrams (SLDs), AC/DC schematics, interlocking diagrams, logic diagrams, and overall system architecture.
• Support the technical aspects of procurement by preparing equipment specifications, evaluating supplier bids, and conducting technical clarifications and negotiations.
• Act as secondary engineer for complex HV/EHV AIS and GIS substations (typically 132kV, 220kV, 400kV and above) in accordance with TAQA TRANSMISSION and DEWA grid requirements.
• Prepare and review cable schedules, routing, control room layouts, AC/DC system calculations, battery charger sizing, panel GA drawings, and wiring diagrams.
• Design control protection panels and coordinate interface engineering between primary civil and telecom systems.
• Prepare and review technical deviations and clarifications.
• Support site teams during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
• Technically evaluate supplier/subcontractor documents as per TAQA TRANSMISSION and DEWA standards and project specifications.
• Demonstrate strong coordination skills to manage internal and external stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10‑12 years of experience in secondary engineering for HV/EHV substations.
• Experience with utilities such as TAQA TRANSMISSION, DEWA, FEWA or international utilities.
• Strong understanding of authority systems, standards, and grid codes in the UAE.
