Compressor Aerothermal Engineer II
POWERTECH is a center of excellence for propulsion technologies, specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of combustion engines, expendable turbojet engines, and turbofan engines for a wide range of aerospace, defence, and autonomous applications, including fixed‑ and rotary‑wing UAVs and other advanced platforms.
Position SummaryThe Compressor Aerothermal Engineer is responsible for performing Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis and thermal analysis to support the aerodynamics and aerothermal design of turbofan engine components and systems. The role contributes to the development, optimization and validation of flow‑path performance on the HP and LP compressor. The position supports design decisions, performance prediction and risk reduction throughout the engine development lifecycle, from conceptual design to engine testing, even industrialisation and in‑service support.
Complementary support could be needed on specific aerothermal analysis from inlet to exhaust, including combustor, turbine and secondary air systems, test campaign preparation and test results analysis.
- Design and optimise the turbofan compressor module and sub‑components from a CFD/thermal perspective
- Analyse flow behaviour, losses, efficiency and stability margins
- Support aerodynamic design iterations through CFD‑driven analysis
- Support the whole integrated system analysis (platform/engine)
- Conduct sensitivity analysis and evaluate the impact of design changes on performance, operability and thermal margins, and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, surge margin, pressure ratio, and cooling effectiveness
- Support the development/set‑up methodologies and chain of software, from scratch, including automated computational analysis/reports. Support the management of knowledge
- Review the designs, simulations and support testing activities (test correlation)
- Participate in technical review and produce technical reports
- Identify project risks and plan for mitigation
- Act as a compressor technical interface when needed with other Powertech departments, customers or OEM partners
- Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace engineering, Turbo machinery, Fluid Dynamics (turbulence, multiphase flows, boundary‑layer behaviour)
- Experience in compressor and turbine modules, multidisciplinary optimisation
- 5+ years or more for senior roles
- Proficient in one of CFD tools such as Fluent, Star‑CCM+, OpenFOAM, …
- Familiarity with meshing tools (ICEM, Turbogrid, …), Python/Matlab and HPC computing environments
- Awareness of the state‑of‑the‑art technologies including AI‑assisted design methods
- Good communication and presentation skills to interact with team members, clients and vendors
- Ability to solve problems, prioritise tasks and delegate when necessary
