Senior Railway System Engineer – Testing & Commissioning Manager

RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Railway System Engineer – Testing & Commissioning Manager to join its office in Al Ain Abu Dhabi within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.

Mission:
The Senior Railway System Engineer is responsible for integrating, verifying and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking covering rolling stock, signalling, infrastructure, power supply and communication systems.

The successful candidate will join the RINA team and will act as Testing & Commissioning Manager for the project of appointment, collaborating with the System Engineering and System Assurance Experts and Managers, interfacing with the T & C Managers of the subsystems involved in the development and construction of the whole railway system, managing the Site Acceptance Test campaign of the subsystems, executing the Site Integration and Performance Tests, ensuring the successful T & C activities finalization and the final validation of the integrated railway system.

  • A. Verification & Validation: Ensuring railway systems adhere to the performance and characteristics required by the project requirements, standards, laws – managing all the V & V activities, defining the relevant plans and monitoring the activities execution – monitoring the execution of the FAI, FAT, SAT and other V & V activities relevant to the subsystems – managing and executing the on‑site integration T & C activities (SIT, SPT, trial run).
  • B. System Design & Architecture: Defining and managing railway system requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems, rolling stock, signalling, tracks, power supply – selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects – managing interface development by the subsystems and coordinating the process of verification and validation of all interfaces during the life cycle of the project up to interface final successful closure.
  • C. System Integration: Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems and interfaces between rolling stock, signalling and infrastructure – validating system compatibility across national and international requirements and standards (e.g., EN, NFPA).
  • D. Performance Optimization: Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption and operational reliability.
  • E. Lifecycle Management: Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects – supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity.
  • F. Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies: Implementing IoT, AI and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation – working with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring and Smart Signaling technologies.

Education
:
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in integration/system engineering for railway systems.
  • Experience in focusing on sustainability in railway systems and infrastructure design, construction, and operation.
  • Experience with Rolling Stock (Metro, EMUs, DMUs, LRVs);
    Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking);
    Electrification (25kV AC, 750V DC, 3kV DC systems);
    Track Infrastructure (Standard gauge, High‑Speed Rail, Light Rail, Metro).
  • Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure; managing mixed traffic operations (High‑speed, freight, commuter trains).
  • Knowledge of CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety); ETCS/ERTMS; IEC 62290; UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions).
  • Systems Engineering: DOORS, Enterprise Architect;
    Failure & Safety Analysis:
    Relia Soft, FMECA, FTA tools;
    Electrical & Mechanical Design: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA.
  • Project Management & Lifecycle Management:
    Working with V‑Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies; managing large‑scale railway system deployment projects.
