Overview
Lead Material Engineer – Offshore Island Project. Based in UAE (Abu Dhabi) with relocation to Spain and back to Abu Dhabi as part of the project delivery for ADNOC Offshore. The K team delivers science, technology and engineering solutions across the asset life cycle.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Leadership:
Lead material engineering and metallurgy activities for offshore oil & gas facilities (platforms, pipelines, subsea systems, processing facilities); develop and review material selection philosophies, corrosion control strategies, and material specifications; provide technical guidance on metallic and non-metallic materials for offshore environments; ensure compliance with ADNOC standards, project specifications, API, ASME, ASTM, NACE, ISO, and international engineering codes. - Material Selection & Corrosion Management:
Perform material selection studies considering process conditions, corrosion mechanisms, temperature, pressure, and environmental factors; develop Corrosion Management Programs (CMP) and Corrosion Control Documents (CCD); review corrosion allowances and recommend corrosion mitigation measures; evaluate requirements for CRA materials, duplex stainless steels, carbon steel, nickel alloys, GRE/GRP, and specialty materials; support corrosion risk assessments and life-cycle integrity studies. - Engineering & Design Support:
Review deliverables including Material Requisition s, Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE), Material Specifications, Pipeline Material Class Specifications, Piping Material Specifications (PMS), Metallurgical Reports, and Corrosion Studies; interface with Process, Mechanical, Pipeline, Piping, Inspection, and Integrity disciplines; participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and design review workshops. - Vendor & Procurement Support:
Review vendor documentation and manufacturing procedures; evaluate technical compliance of supplier proposals; support procurement activities through technical bid evaluations and vendor clarifications; resolve material-related issues during fabrication and construction stages. - Construction & Quality Assurance:
Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, and start-up; review welding procedures, PWHT requirements, NDE specifications, and material test reports; participate in material failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA); ensure compliance with quality standards and project requirements. - Project Management & Coordination:
Lead a team of material and corrosion engineers; coordinate with ADNOC, EPC contractors, consultants, and third-party inspection agencies; monitor engineering progress, schedules, budgets, and project deliverables; provide periodic technical reports and engineering recommendations.
- Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
- Professional certifications such as NACE CIP, NACE CP, API 571, API 580, API 581, or equivalent are advantageous.
- Experience:
Minimum 18–20 years in the oil & gas industry; at least 8–10 years in a Lead Material Engineering role; extensive offshore project experience with ADNOC, major EPC contractors, or international operators; proven experience in FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, and offshore brownfield/greenfield projects; strong knowledge of sour service environments, corrosion mechanisms, and material degradation.
