Freight Facilities Design Engineering Manager

We are looking for an experienced Freight Facilities Design Manager to lead the planning, design, and optimization of our rail freight terminals, intermodal facilities, and associated infrastructure. In this pivotal role, you will drive innovation and efficiency in our freight handling operations, ensuring our facilities meet the evolving demands of the modern supply chain.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the conceptual and detailed design of rail freight terminals, intermodal yards, and transloading facilities
- Develop optimized layouts for freight handling, storage, and transfer operations
- Analyze operational workflows and implement designs that maximize efficiency, throughput, and safety
- Oversee facility modernization projects from concept through implementation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, and environmental departments
- Evaluate existing facilities and recommend improvements to enhance capacity and operational efficiency
- Create detailed technical documentation, including CAD drawings and facility specifications
- Provide technical expertise during construction and commissioning phases
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies in freight facility design
- Manage all aspects of Freight Facilities contracts related to New Freight Facilities and Existing Facility Improvements, including service agreements, and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Prepare the Facility functional requirements, SoW and associated tender documents in coordination with the relevant stakeholders (Internal & external)
- Manage the contractors and consultants efficiently in order to deliver the jobs on time and allocated capex.
- Ensure that value engineering exercise applied during the PE design and D&B duration for feasible and optimised solution.
- Monitor the contractors and consultants to ensure they meet the quality HSE standards.
- Implement performance measurement mechanisms, conduct regular reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and manage budgets related to design and construction contracts in line with your line manager.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in designing rail freight terminals, intermodal facilities, or similar logistics infrastructure
- Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale freight facility projects
- Expert knowledge of rail operations, freight handling processes, and intermodal logistics
- Proficiency with CAD software and facility design tools
- Strong understanding of rail infrastructure requirements, including track design and signaling systems
- Knowledge of material handling equipment and automation technologies
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for rail freight facilities
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
- Strong communication abilities and experience working with multidisciplinary teams
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification
- Experience with simulation modeling of freight operations
- Knowledge of LEAN principles and their application to facility design
- Understanding of environmental sustainability practices in freight facility design
- Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) software
- Background in implementing automation and smart technologies in freight facilities
- International experience with freight facility design
