Senior Engineer, Reliability; Instrumentation
Job Purpose
The jobholder is responsible to provide engineering expertise in leading the Instrumentation Reliability for Borouge’s Plants (B1, B2, B3) and equipment in line with international engineering standards and best practices to enhance operational operability, productivity, quality, and capacity.
This role includes developing or updating maintenance strategies, leading or participating in high‑severity incidents and equipment failures, conducting Asset Criticality Analysis, proactive risk management, performing Reliability Centre‑ded Maintenance, End‑of‑life management, RAM studies of instrumentation systems, managing bad actors, standardizing best practices, and analyzing equipment performance, failure data, and corrective maintenance history while ensuring the Instrumentation Reliability Process is established and maintained.
KeyAccountabilities Maintenance Strategies
- Coordinate and facilitate Reliability Centre‑ded Maintenance and Instrument Protective Function analysis to optimize equipment and system maintenance strategies.
- Develop or improve predictive, preventive, and major maintenance programs for plant equipment and systems to enhance reliability.
- Introduce Root Cause Analysis techniques and facilitate equipment failure investigations.
- Provide guidelines for conducting Root Cause Analysis methodology and software.
- Perform troubleshooting, lead or participate in root‑cause analysis and design review on equipment failures to identify corrective actions, modifications or required repairs, and implement innovative technologies as needed.
- Develop and implement the Reliability Management System for Instrumentation Engineering to ensure a structured, consistent, multi‑discipline approach to reliability and integrity improvement.
- Assist in developing a comprehensive Maintenance Management System for all instrument and control systems.
- Develop and maintain codes of practice and ensure that the standards contained in such codes are fully understood and consistently complied with.
- Establish a Reliability, Availability, Integrity threats database on the common shared server.
- Develop reliability, availability, and integrity improvement plans in conjunction with managers and leads in Maintenance.
- Participate in developing engineering and technical solutions to improve reliability performance of systems and equipment.
- Identify chronic equipment failure modes and components and suggest economical long‑term solutions.
- Track and implement instrumentation reliability recommendations to ensure proper deployment of targeted improvements.
- Identify statutory requirements based on government regulation, ADNOC standards, OEM, suppliers, and international standards to produce procedures, work instructions, and checklists for various activities and requirements.
- Propose improvements in business processes and procedures to reduce risk and improve safety standards of the plant.
- Stay updated on Health, Safety, Environment, Crisis Management, and Risk Registers for all processes, projects, and activities within the operating zone.
- Promote, communicate, and lead by example all safety‑related communications, updates, standards, and related topics with co‑workers and across interfaces.
- Provide timely feedback and recommendations to create a risk‑free environment that supports the ultimate goal of a safe workplace.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Fluency in English (written and oral).
- Minimum of 8 years of total experience in maintenance within the petrochemical and oil & gas industry, including 4 years as a Senior Engineer in Reliability & troubleshooting.
- Minimum of 5–8 years of experience as a Reliability Engineer (Instrumentation/Control).
- Experience with maintenance needs, processes, and strategies for equipment and systems in the petrochemical and oil‑gas industry.
- Working knowledge of HSE policies applicable to the chemical and petrochemical industry.
- Understanding of planning tools, techniques, philosophies, and processes used in oil & gas or petrochemical environments.
- Ability to facilitate execution by overcoming barriers and obstacles within complex projects, and to initiate inter‑departmental collaboration on projects or operating methods.
- Preferred certifications in CMRP, CRE, etc.
