Specialist HVAC Engineer – Offshore Water Injection Project
Location:
UAE (Abu Dhabi). The role may include relocation to the Spain Office and eventual return to Abu Dhabi after administrative processes are completed.
The HVAC Specialist Engineer is responsible for the design, review, and execution of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for ADNOC Offshore facilities. The role ensures compliance with ADNOC standards, international codes, project specifications, and offshore safety requirements. The engineer supports all project phases including FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and Start-up.
Key Responsibilities- Perform HVAC design calculations for offshore platforms, substations, control rooms, electrical rooms, accommodation modules, and utility buildings.
- Develop HVAC system design basis, philosophies, specifications, and technical reports.
- Prepare and review HVAC Load Calculations, Ventilation and Pressurization Studies, HVAC Equipment Data Sheets, HVAC Layouts and Ducting Drawings, Air Distribution Schematics, and Equipment Schedules.
- Ensure adequate temperature control, ventilation, humidity control, and indoor air quality requirements.
- Design HVAC systems for hazardous and non‑hazardous offshore areas, ensuring compliance with hazardous area classification and pressurization systems.
- Incorporate smoke control and emergency ventilation requirements into the design.
- Evaluate HVAC requirements for offshore living quarters and critical operational facilities.
- Specify and review HVAC equipment including AHUs, Chillers, Package HVAC Units, Precision Air Conditioning Units, Exhaust Fans, Fresh Air Fans, Pressurization Units, Duct Heaters, and Air Filters.
- Review vendor drawings, technical documents, and performance calculations, and participate in technical bid evaluations and vendor selection.
- Interface with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Safety, Structural, and Architectural disciplines; coordinate HVAC design with fire and gas systems, building management systems, and utility systems.
- Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, Design Reviews, and Safety Workshops.
- Prepare Technical Requisition s (MR/TBE) and evaluate vendor proposals for technical compliance.
- Review and approve vendor documents and manufacturing data; support procurement and material selection.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning; conduct site inspections and resolve field engineering issues.
- Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Support HVAC system start‑up, performance testing, and handover activities.
- Ensure compliance with ADNOC Engineering Standards, ASHRAE Standards, NFPA Codes, SMACNA Standards, ISO Standards, and International Building and Offshore Standards.
- Participate in technical audits and design verification activities; ensure HVAC design satisfies energy‑efficiency and sustainability requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering;
Master’s Degree in HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, or Energy Systems preferred. - Professional Engineering Certification and ASHRAE Membership or relevant HVAC certifications preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of HVAC engineering experience in Oil & Gas projects with at least 5 years in a Specialist/Senior HVAC role for offshore facilities.
- Strong experience on ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, Qatar Energy, or other major offshore projects.
- Experience in FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, and Brownfield/Greenfield projects.
- Knowledge of offshore platform and accommodation module HVAC systems.
- Technical competencies in Offshore HVAC System Design, HVAC Load Calculations (HAP/Elite), Pressurization Systems Design, Smoke Management Systems, Hazardous Area Ventilation, ASHRAE Standards, NFPA Requirements, Energy Efficiency Studies, HVAC Equipment Selection, Vendor Package Review, Building HVAC Control Systems, Offshore Buildings & Accommodation HVAC Design, Fire & Gas Integration Requirements.
- Software skills: HAP, Elite HVAC Software, AutoCAD, Micro Station, Navisworks, Smart Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, MS Office Suite.
- Soft skills:
strong technical leadership and problem‑solving, excellent communication and stakeholder management, planning, reporting, and organizational capabilities, experience working with clients, consultants, EPC contractors, and vendors.
