Lead Electrical Engineer – Offshore Island Project

Location:

UAE (Abu Dhabi), with relocation to Spain and return to Abu Dhabi.

Job Overview:
Lead all electrical engineering activities for ADNOC offshore projects spanning FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, commissioning, and start‑up. The role ensures safe, reliable, and cost‑effective design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems on offshore platforms, process facilities, substations, and utility systems, complying with ADNOC standards, international codes, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all electrical engineering activities for offshore oil and gas facilities.
  • Manage and supervise a team of electrical engineers, designers, and draftsmen.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within project schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with ADNOC, EPC contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and resolve complex electrical engineering issues.
  • Develop and review electrical design philosophies and engineering calculations.
  • Lead the design and specification of power generation systems, HV/MV/LV distribution systems, offshore substations, switch gear, transformers, UPS, battery systems, motor control centers, VFDs, and power management systems.
  • Review and approve single line diagrams, load lists, electrical equipment specifications, cable schedules, protection coordination studies, earthing and lightning protection designs, lighting layouts, and hazardous area equipment specifications.
  • Review and approve electrical system studies, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, relay coordination, arc flash, harmonic, transient stability, and ETAP modeling and simulations.
  • Ensure electrical installations comply with offshore and hazardous area requirements, and coordinate with process safety and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Prepare and review material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor offers, and approve vendor drawings, calculations, and documentation.
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, and offshore hook‑up activities; resolve site technical queries and non‑conformance issues.
  • Review and approve commissioning procedures, test plans, and witness FAT, SAT, integrated system tests, and energization activities.
  • Support start‑up and project handover activities.
  • Coordinate interface management with instrumentation & control, mechanical, process, telecom, structural engineering, and construction teams.
  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, API, ISO standards and local UAE regulations, and participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL reviews, design reviews, and project audits.
  • Promote safe engineering practices and compliance with ADNOC HSE requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Power Systems or related discipline preferred.
  • Professional Engineering, Chartered Engineer, or equivalent certification is advantageous.
Experience
  • Minimum 18–20 years of electrical engineering experience in oil & gas projects.
  • Minimum 8–10 years in a lead electrical engineering position.
  • Extensive experience in offshore oil and gas facilities.
  • Proven experience on ADNOC offshore projects and major EPC projects in the Middle East.
  • Experience in FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, brownfield, and greenfield projects.
  • Strong knowledge of offshore power generation and distribution systems.
