Associate Technical Director - Electrical; Power Networks

Overview

Technical Expert – Electrical, with core expertise in high-voltage substations, to support Power Transmission & Distribution projects in the Middle East. The role focuses on leading the electrical discipline, delivering timely and quality outcomes, and acting as the front face to key clients.

• Provide overall leadership of the Electrical Discipline, including client management, project delivery, bids and proposals, and people management (mentoring and team development).
• Apply strong technical knowledge in primary and secondary detailed engineering of EHV substations; serve as a subject matter expert for at least one area.
• Lead conceptual engineering drawings and designs (calculations), and prepare BOQs for EHV projects, including AIS and GIS, ranging from 132 kV to 400 kV with emphasis on 220 kV and above.
• Perform design reviews of electrical deliverables for T&D projects and interface with clients as a lead designer.
• Manage engineers and designers in electrical design review and basic engineering work, including sizing calculations, layouts, BOQs, and providing technical inputs to designers; assist in procurement in line with tender specs and design basis within budgeted man-hours and schedules.
• Provide expertise in basic design/review of electrical substation facilities (SLD, P&C diagrams, layouts, protection, grounding, wiring, BOMs, and related diagrams) and ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Prepare project specifications for material and equipment procurement and installation.
• Conduct feasibility studies, conceptual design reports, design reviews, and site supervision activities on OE roles as applicable.
• Deliver accurate and constructible designs that meet industry standards and specifications.
• Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability; resolve site queries during construction.
• Maintain complete project documentation for substation design and construction, including completion packages and as-built information.
• Coordinate design activities with multi-disciplinary project teams and manage commitments to project teams.
• Assist in preparing technical inquiries to vendors, participate in technical bid evaluations, review vendor drawings, and ensure vendor equipment meets client specifications and budget.
• Lead proposal and bidding work for all power and network-related projects.
• Collaborate with WSP offices and GCC team to ensure successful delivery of PT&D projects.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members; participate in training and organizational initiatives.
• Lead projects and engage in hands-on project management practices with clients; be willing to visit client offices or project sites in the region as required.

• Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 15–20 years of experience in a lead role on large capital projects in the Middle East.
• Familiarity with software tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, and ASPEN is an advantage.
• Experience with Middle East utilities (e.g., TAQA, ADDC, SEC, NGSA, DEWA) is a strong differentiator.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
