Position Overview

We are seeking a proactive and technically competent Procurement Engineer to manage end-to-end procurement activities for ship repair, fabrication, and engineering projects. The successful candidate will source materials and equipment, evaluate suppliers, negotiate commercial terms, coordinate with engineering and project teams, and ensure timely procurement while maintaining compliance with quality, budget, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Source and procure materials, equipment, and services required for ship repair, maintenance, fabrication, and new build projects.
  • Review technical specifications and engineering requirements to ensure accurate procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Evaluate, qualify, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery performance, and technical capability.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and strategic vendors to support long-term business objectives.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, contracts, and delivery schedules to achieve cost-effective procurement solutions.
  • Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials to support project schedules and operational requirements.
  • Maintain and continuously update the Approved Vendor List (AVL) for ongoing and future projects.
  • Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions where required to improve quality and delivery performance.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, QA/QC, Project Management, and Production teams to ensure procured items comply with technical specifications and project requirements.
  • Ensure all purchased materials meet applicable quality standards, client specifications, statutory regulations, and company procedures.
  • Participate in technical evaluation of materials and identify procurement risks that may impact project execution.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment of critical materials to prevent operational delays.
  • Coordinate logistics activities, including material deliveries, shipment tracking, and transportation planning.
  • Monitor procurement budgets and ensure purchases remain within approved cost limits.
  • Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for cost reduction, supplier development, and value engineering.
  • Prepare cost estimates and procurement inputs to support project planning, budgeting, and commercial activities.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain purchase orders, procurement reports, supplier records, and procurement documentation.
  • Handle import/export documentation, customs clearance, and international shipping requirements where applicable.
  • Support audits by maintaining complete procurement records and ensuring compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Stores, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted project execution.
  • Provide technical and commercial procurement support throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant procurement experience within Oil & Gas, Marine, Shipyard, EPC, or Heavy Engineering industries.

Technical

Qualification:

Strong understanding of technical procurement, engineering materials, supplier evaluation, contract management, and procurement best practices.

Skills: Excellent negotiation, supplier management, commercial evaluation, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Software: Proficient in MS Office, Oracle, Sage X, or other ERP systems.

Knowledge: Sound knowledge of procurement processes, international sourcing, import/export procedures, logistics coordination, supplier performance management, quality standards, and contract administration.
