Energy Planning Officer (UAEN

The Energy Planning Officer is responsible for providing insight, technical and methodological expertise on assessing and monitoring the Emirate's electricity security of supply and reviewing and oversight of the development and implementation of the mid-long term power generation plans.

The Energy Planning Officer is also in charge of assisting with the proper monitoring, assessment, and management of gas and electricity sector challenges and risks that may pose a threat to the energy sector, including, but not limited to, those about supply security, technology, political, economic, environmental, and social factors. This includes a commitment to produce and disseminate information on gas and electricity-related matters effectively to foster informed discussions, engagement, and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support in review and assessment n of EWEC's statement of future capacity requirements and associated analysis, and liaise with other stakeholders (including ADEO, TAQA, EAD, etc.) regarding the development and implementation of planning frameworks and requirements.
• Support review of EWEC’s Week 7 Demand Forecast and associated analysis and production of assessment reports.
• Produce and monitor a 7-year demand and supply outlook for power and gas.
• Assist in the preparation of an annual system outlook report and manage the annual and mid-term assessment and monitoring of challenges to the Sector's gas and electricity security of supply, including the provision of recommendations on strategies and measures to mitigate any such challenges
• Support development and system integration of new production facilities and the new nuclear and renewables program in particular.
• Support preparation of an annual report that presents an overview of the progress and key challenges for the Barakah nuclear project.
• Liaise and coordinate activities with other relevant teams, particularly the electricity transmission, gas, and water planning teams. Representing the DoE in its daily interaction with Sector Licensees and other Sector authorities and stakeholders with regard to power system planning. Providing comment, review, and strategy input on technical issues relating to all future power system developments in the Sector.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of energy sector developments and operations to support power system planning and reliability assessment framework.
• Work closely with the relevant sector companies and represent the Sector in the respective committees and the associated working groups.
• Support with any other system planning-related responsibilities or initiatives required by DoE as instructed by the Planning and Energy Markets Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in energy field with major in Electrical Engineering,

Experience

• 1 to 2 years of experience in the energy sector, ideally in energy sector planning and operations, sector economics, and sector risk management.
