Technology Innovation Institute is looking for a Senior Optics Researcher. He is responsible for performing research and development activities related to large optical systems for high-power laser applications.

ResponsibilitiesMain responsibilities include:
- Modeling, designing, integrating, and testing large complex opto-mechanical systems to deliver high-power laser beam systems, with the support of the local engineering team.
- Lead the optical design activities (simulation, tolerances, stray light analysis, beam wavefront)
- Design and integration of fast steering mirror systems to achieve wireless optical communication
- Optics and coating selection/integration for the wireless optical system.
- Optical system performances simulation
- Working collaboratively with project team members
- Interacting with scientific partners, suppliers, and manufacturers
- Participating in multidisciplinary discussions within the activity domain of DERC
- Strong experience with Zemax SW with relevant experience on complex optical system design
- Experience in developing large opto-mechanical systems: from the optical design to the final demonstrator.
- Ability to carry out System Testing, Verification, and Field Alignment
- Experience of using and integrating Fast steering mirrors (FSM) for beam pointing capabilities.
- Experience in optics design including laser coatings and substrates.
- Hands-on experience with optical setup building (alignment, prototypes validation)
- Experience in laser/optics measurements (wavefront, beam intensity…)
- Experience performing tolerancing and optimization studies.
- Experience in modeling languages such as Python or Matlab
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a research team with effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work in clean rooms (ISO7 class) in accordance to the laser safety international standards
To qualify for this position, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- Master degree in Optics or similar
- At least 2 years of working experience in an R&D department (or similar environment) directly related to the topic, or 5 years in optical design systems
- Good level of English (speaking and writing)
