Position SummaryMechanical Design/Lead Engineer will be responsible for the design of the gas turbine components including compressors, turbines, shafts, bearing systems, and stationary structures within the turbojet and turbofan development programs. This role requires expert knowledge in mechanical design, integrity, gas turbine propulsion, planning for projects and ability to develop individuals.
Key Responsibilities- Design and optimize the gas turbine static and rotary systems for life, weight, manufacturability and cost.
- Carry out Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing tasks, define assembly procedures.
- Prepare drawings and define manufacturing guidelines
- Carry out FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) to support the safety and operability assessments
- Support other team members, develop junior engineers and provide constructive feedback
- Review the designs, simulations and generate testing guidelines
- Identify project risks and plan for mitigation
- Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering degree or a related field.
- Strong background in gas turbine propulsion, mechanical design, integrity and heat transfer.
- Fluent in English
- 5+ years of relevant experience or more for lead/senior role
- Experience in one or a combination of the activities, not limited to
- Design of gas turbine externals and accessories i.e., fuel pump, oil pump, bleed lines.
- Design and sizing of disks, shafts, couplings, connection elements.
- Design and sizing of accessory gearbox, shaft power off-take
- FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis, & Corrective Action System) activities.
- Technical skills in one or a combination of stated topics.
- Proficient in one of design packages such as Solidworks, Siemens NX or similar.
- Experience in PLM tools such as Teamcenter, Windchill or similar.
- Experience in FEA, or lower order simulation methods.
- Experience in programming using C, Matlab/Simulink or similar.
- Awareness on the state-of-the-art technologies in materials, aerodynamics, and structural mechanics to link with mechanical design for gas turbine propulsion
- Good communication and presentation skills to interact with team members, clients, and vendors.
- Ability to solve problems, prioritize tasks and delegate when necessary
