Job Description – Electrical Switchgear Engineer (Field Service Engineer – GIS/HV Switchgear)
Location: Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Project: ADNOC Refining – Specialist Electrical Services for Critical Equipment

Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Switchgear Engineer to provide specialist field engineering services for GIS, AIS, and HV/MV/LV switch gear systems across ADNOC Refining facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, condition assessment, and commissioning of critical switch gear assets to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of GIS, AIS, HV, MV, and LV switch gear systems.
- Execute testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis of switch gear, circuit breakers, busbars, protection circuits, and associated equipment.
- Carry out condition assessments, health checks, and preventive maintenance in accordance with OEM recommendations and international standards.
- Supervise shutdown and turnaround activities, including inspection of busbars, bus ducts, circuit breakers, SF₆ systems, and switch gear components
. - Investigate switch gear failures, trips, and electrical incidents, prepare technical reports, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Perform replacement of obsolete and end-of-life switch gear components in accordance with OEM guidelines.
- Monitor spare parts inventory and provide recommendations for procurement and lifecycle management.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Protection, and Reliability teams to improve electrical system performance.
- Provide emergency technical support during electrical failures and plant shutdowns.
- Prepare maintenance reports, inspection records, and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with ADNOC HSE requirements, IEC, IEEE, and OEM standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of hands-on experience in GIS/AIS/HV/MV/LV switch gear maintenance, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting within the oil & gas, refinery, petrochemical, power generation, or utility transmission industry
. - Strong field service experience with Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and conventional high-voltage switch gear.
- Experience with major OEMs such as ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Hyundai, Hyosung, L&T, or equivalent.
- Sound knowledge of:
- HV/MV/LV switch gear systems
- Circuit breakers (Vacuum, SF₆, Air)
- Busbar and bus duct systems
- Protection and control circuits
- Partial discharge monitoring
- Electrical testing and diagnostics
- Condition monitoring and asset reliability
- Familiarity with SAP PM/EAM or equivalent maintenance management systems is preferred.
- Good knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ADNOC electrical standards, and HSE procedures.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting ADNOC or other major Oil & Gas operators.
- Proven experience in refinery, petrochemical, or utility transmission environments.
- Exposure to brownfield projects, shutdowns, and live plant maintenance activities.
- Experience with reliability improvement programs and electrical asset lifecycle management.
