Abu

Dhabi’s Construction Engine:
Why Contracts Roles Are Booming

The United Arab Emirates, and Abu Dhabi in particular, has entered a new era of infrastructure and defence expansion. With mega-projects ranging from smart cities to advanced aerospace facilities, the demand for professionals who can navigate the complex legal and commercial landscape of construction contracts has skyrocketed. The Senior Officer, Contracts (Civil Engineer) role at AL TAIF sits at the heart of this boom.

It is not merely an administrative position—it is a strategic role that ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and without legal disputes. For civil engineers and contract management professionals, this opportunity offers a unique gateway into the UAE’s defence and aerospace sector, where precision and compliance are non-negotiable.

AL TAIF, a company deeply embedded in the UAE’s defence and space manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for a seasoned professional to manage the full contract lifecycle for civil and construction projects. The role is designed for someone who understands both the technical world of civil engineering and the legal intricacies of procurement. This is a rare hybrid role that combines engineering acumen with commercial negotiation skills—a combination that is becoming increasingly valuable in today’s competitive job market.

Inside

the Senior Officer, Contracts Role at AL TAIF

This is not a desk-bound, routine job. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing contracts from cradle to grave. Here is a snapshot of the core duties you will handle:

  • Tender Management: Preparing and issuing Invitations to Tender (ITT), Requests for Proposal (RFP), and Requests for Quotation (RFQ). You will also evaluate bids and select the most suitable contractors based on technical and financial criteria.
  • Contract Formation: Drafting final contractual instruments such as Purchase Orders, Blanket Purchase Agreements, and Service Maintenance Agreements, ensuring all legal and technical documents are ready for management approval.
  • Vendor Administration: Following up on deliveries, coordinating signatures of delivery notes and completion certificates, and resolving non-conformances like returns, shortages, and quality issues.
  • Negotiation and

    Risk Management:

Negotiating prices, timelines, payment schedules, and other terms while identifying and mitigating risks such as delays and legal issues.
  • Change Management: Handling change orders and modifications, monitoring vendor performance, and ensuring compliance with agreed terms.
  • Closure and Audit: Overseeing the contract closure process, supporting audits, and maintaining meticulous records to ensure every obligation is fulfilled.

Underpinning all these tasks is the requirement to maintain compliance with ISO standards (9001, 45001, 14001) and to uphold the confidentiality of sensitive company documents. The role also involves advising other team members and stepping in when the Manager, Contracts and Subcontracts needs support.

“This is a career-defining role for a civil engineer who wants to pivot into the commercial side of construction. You are not just building structures—you are building the legal and financial framework that makes those structures possible.”
