Specialist Draughtsman – Harness About the Role

Our client, a leading name in the defence and aerospace sector, is seeking an experienced Specialist Draughtsman – Harness to support the design, development, and release of complex electrical harness systems within a highly regulated engineering environment. Sitting within the Drawing Office under Engineering, you'll work closely with Mechanical Design Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality, and Configuration Management teams on defence‑grade, safety‑critical programmes.

• Work on highly sophisticated engineered products at defence and aerospace‑level standards
• Own the complete harness design lifecycle — from concept through to release
• Deep involvement in configuration‑controlled, safety‑critical programmes
• Advanced CAD/PLM environment using Creo and Windchill
• Clear progression path toward Senior Specialist, Lead Designer, or Engineering Team Lead, with exposure to major design reviews (PDR, CDR, Qualification Reviews)

• Create 3D routed electrical harness assemblies using Creo Cabling/Harness
• Produce manufacturing‑ready 2D harness drawings, wire lists, connection tables, and BOMs
• Define connector selection, backshells, shielding, splices, terminations, and routing constraints (bend radius, segregation)
• Integrate harness systems within electro‑mechanical assemblies
• Administer configuration control through Windchill PLM, including ECR/ECN processing and full traceability
• Ensure compliance with BS 8888, ISO standards, and IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards where applicable
• Support defence‑grade design reviews and certification activities
• Review and approve harness documentation prior to release
• Mentor junior CAD designers and drive documentation/process improvements

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline
• 8–15 years' experience in electrical harness design and CAD modelling
• Advanced proficiency in Creo Cabling/Harness modules
• Strong experience with Windchill PDM/PLM and configuration management
• Strong knowledge of BS 8888 drawing standards and ISO documentation/quality standards
• Experience producing manufacturing‑ready harness documentation packages
• Defence, aerospace, precision engineering, or other high‑reliability industry experience preferred

• Solid Works Electrical/Routing experience
• GD&T expertise
• Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards
• Experience in secure or export‑controlled environments
• Experience supporting configuration audits and engineering change processes
