JOB DESCRIPTION
Pharmacist provides pharmacy services to patients and health care providers. Pharmacist verifies medication orders, fills prescriptions, compounds medications, dispenses pharmaceuticals and counsels patients on the appropriate use of medications. Pharmacist trains and/or supervises trainees, new staff and technicians, performs routine quality control testing procedures and maintains all necessary records required by federal and local regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Complies with all regulatory, safety and quality control programs and procedures for its service area as applicable, including but not limited to regulatory licensing, accreditation standards, organizational policies and procedures, etc.
- Promotes the safe, appropriate and cost‑effective use of medications.
- Verifies medication orders for appropriateness of therapy as per SSMC policy and procedure.
- Reviews, compounds, prepares and/or oversees the compounding of medication orders.
- Liaises with physicians, nurses and other fellow health care professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and economic drug treatment.
- Performs independent double checks on the prepared medications.
- Performs insurance approval and financial transaction including payment collection as assigned.
- Dispenses medications to patients and ensures medication reaches the patient in the correct form and dose.
- Counsels patients in the proper use of their medication.
- Ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Maintains the required records of dispensing.
- Maintains proper documentation on patient medication profiles or prescriptions.
- Ensures that medications are stored appropriately and securely hospital wide including narcotics, psychotropic and semi‑controlled medications as per UAE law and regulations.
- Maintains accurate records for narcotics, psychotropic and semi‑controlled medications as per UAE law and regulations.
- Maintains sufficient inventory of medications, supplies and equipment needed for the performance of duties.
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment taking into consideration general organization, hygienic and sterilization rules and regulations.
- Conducts checks and calibration of equipment as required.
- Responds to incidents, adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and reports appropriately.
- Ensures compliance with federal and local rules and regulations related to pharmacy activities.
- Provides education, guidance and training to students, pharmacy interns, trainees, residents, new staff and health care professionals as required.
- Provides drug information and education resources to patients and healthcare professionals.
- Participates in department programs/committees, various hospital committees and staff meetings, as assigned.
- Participates in training and education sessions for department staff and other healthcare professionals in the safe and secure handling of drugs and equipment, prescribing (whenever applicable), administration and treatment and management (i.e., teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, and clinical presentations).
- Participates as required in investigational drug research programs and clinical initiatives.
- Maintains professional knowledge and personal developments.
- Completes and maintains all regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
- Adhere to punctuality as per assigned schedule.
- Ensure patient and hospital information confidentiality.
- Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of medication dispensed to patients.
- Ensure inventory maintenance and stock security.
- Ensure security of cash collected from the patient as assigned.
- Comply consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices and ensure alignment with SSMC facilities policies.
- Complete and maintain regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
- Maintain confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of the role in accordance with facility policy.
- Inpatient Pharmacist: NLT 2 years experience as a hospital pharmacist in a short‑term acute care hospital.
- Outpatient Pharmacist: NLT 2 years of pharmacy practice experience, preferably in a hospital pharmacy. Experience as a sales representative or in a drug store is not acceptable.
- UAE National: upon completion of internship.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION – REQUIRED- BSc degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy (minimum).
- Post‑graduate qualification in pharmacy (preferably a Master’s Degree) (will reduce 1 year from the required years of experience).
