Qualifications and Experience
- BSc in Physiotherapy or Physical Therapy
- Minimum of two years post‑certification as a physiotherapist
- HAAD/DHA valid license
Physiotherapists help people recover from injuries sustained from surgery, illness, ageing or disability. They guide patients to improve their strength and movement and prevent further problems. They diagnose the causes of injury and design treatment plans that may include exercises, manual therapy and electrotherapy using electrical energy as a medical treatment. They also advise on managing long‑term conditions.
Main Responsibilities- Meet patients' goals and needs; assess and interpret evaluations and test results; determine physical‑therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
- Help patients accomplish the treatment plan, including administering manual exercises and encouraging the use of therapeutic devices.
- Assist patients in performing physical activities such as non‑manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily living activities, and the use of assistive/supportive devices (crutches, canes, prostheses).
- Administer physical‑therapy treatments: give massages, initiate traction, apply physical agents, utilize hydrotherapy tanks and whirlpool baths, moist packs, ultraviolet/infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
- Evaluate the effects of treatments and the fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating patient progress; recommend adjustments and modifications.
- Complete discharge planning by consulting physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health‑care workers; contribute to patient‑care conferences; assure continuation of the therapeutic plan following discharge through home‑exercise programs and by instructing patients, families, and caregivers.
- Recommend assistive equipment and outpatient or home‑health follow‑up programs.
- Maintain patient confidence by keeping information confidential; maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection‑control policies and protocols; ensure the operation of equipment through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Develop physical‑therapy staff through in‑service training programs; contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Participate in research and educational conferences held by ACP.
