Responsibilities
Responsible independently or under supervision of senior sonographer to perform all sonography imagery procedures, analyze output and report to supervisor as needed. Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties; report shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience and keep records for ordering and replenishments. Perform all ultrasound imagery procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures and protocols.
Apply detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce high diagnostic quality images. Perform related radiography special procedures as required. Evaluate and assess ultrasound images produced for acceptable quality, appropriateness and completeness, and advise other staff when required. Forward images to radiologist for review and reporting. Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross‑sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols and liaise with radiologists to arrange further imaging or tests.
Responsible for safe and competent use of all radiology equipment, patient appliances and aids used in the department; report any incidents, equipment faults or deterioration to senior staff promptly. Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment. Provide advice to medical technical staff on appropriate techniques and imagery interventions. Deal with patients and clinical staff initial inquiries and relay to clinical staff where necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, promote and maintain quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures. Conduct method evaluation development as per standard policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and quality control programs and procedures, including precautions for environmental safety and infection control. In conjunction with relevant departments, maintain strict confidentiality of patient information, whether formally or informally recorded.
Practice within the limits of established policies and procedures. Ensure SOPs, quality assurance tests are maintained. Document all interventions appropriately. Support clinical audit processes and report on them as agreed. Communicate professionally with patients, families and medical personnel to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status.
Participate in education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses on safe and secure handling of equipment (teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, clinical presentations). Participate in departmental and hospital committees, staff meetings and orientation/training of new employees and radiography interns. Share appropriate internal and external information based on governing policies. Maintain professional knowledge through attending lectures, seminars or online education units.
Complete and maintain all regulatory requirements including licensure and certification, and other mandatory training within established time frames.
Special Certificate –
Required:
- NLT 2 years post‑graduate experience in ultrasound (ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography) – of which NLT 2 years experience as a senior ultrasound radiographer in an acute care hospital.
- NLT 4 years post‑graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography.
- UAE National: NLT 2 years post‑graduate experience in general radiography.
- Desired:
Post‑Graduate Ultrasound Diploma Certificate.
