Position Overview

Responsibilities
  • Respond to medical emergency calls and drive to the scene to provide basic life support before transport to the hospital.
  • Evaluate the nature and extent of illness or injury to determine the appropriate course of action.
  • Conduct patient assessment, including interpretation of ECG.
  • Provide medical aid such as AED, CPR, spinal protection, ventilation, control of severe bleeding, prevention of shock, bandaging wounds, and stabilization of the patient.
  • Administer activated charcoal, oral glucose, and oxygen as needed.
  • Continuously reassess the patient enroute to the emergency facility and administer additional care as directed by medical control.
  • Maintain vehicles, medical and communication equipment, replenish first‑aid supplies, restock blankets and linens, and clean equipment following disinfecting protocols.
  • Reassure patients during transport.
  • Assist EMT paramedics in delivering efficient advanced life support care.
  • Perform direct illness/injury assessment and provide basic pre‑hospital care during ambulance transfer, while transferring information to the receiving facility.
  • Maintain operational and functional readiness of the ambulance unit and associated equipment.
  • Collaborate with communications officers, field supervisors, emergency department staff, police, fire department, and other personnel to deliver emergency and non‑emergency medical services to the public.
  • Use radio communication skills, GPS mapping, and safe driving to achieve the shortest response time.
  • Assist in lifting, carrying, and transporting patients to the ambulance and onward to a medical facility, reassuring bystanders and avoiding mishandling.
  • Follow departmental policies, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and infection‑control standards.
  • Inspect, clean, and restock ambulance equipment; review all medical supplies to ensure completeness and readiness in collaboration with the field supervisor.
  • Conduct scene size‑up, perform primary and secondary patient examinations, record vital signs, and use non‑invasive diagnostic devices.
  • Use oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway devices; open and maintain airway by head positioning.
  • Provide CPR and rescue breathing for infants, children, and adults.
  • Manage soft‑tissue injuries, control bleeding, care for suspected fractures with immobilization, and assist with pre‑hospital childbirth.
  • Ventilate using non‑invasive positive pressure delivery devices and manage suspected shock with pneumatic anti‑shock garments.
  • Obtain capillary blood specimens for glucose monitoring; administer epinephrine for anaphylaxis and aspirin for suspected myocardial infarction.
  • Operate bag‑valve mask devices, perform cardiac defibrillation with an AED, and suction tracheobronchial tubes in intubated patients.
  • Understand body‑substance isolation procedures and basic medical‑legal principles.
  • Comply with regulations on handling the deceased, notify authorities, and protect property and evidence at the scene.
  • Verify vehicle mechanical condition and maintain familiarity with specialized equipment.
  • Attend continuing education and refresher training programs.
  • Complete clear and accurate pre‑hospital emergency care reports for all patient contacts.
Qualifications
  • A graduate of an internationally recognized EMT – Basic course or equivalent with a minimum 4‑week duration and a valid BLS certification.
  • At least two (2) years of EMT–Basic experience.
  • Currently licensed at the country of origin and holding a DOH license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; proficiency in Arabic is desirable but not essential.
