JOB DESCRIPTION

Anesthetic technicians prepare equipment needed for the patient to safely undergo anesthesia. Below are the detailed responsibilities and qualifications for the role.

• Checking and setting up the anesthetic machine.
• Preparing intravenous drugs under anesthetist supervision.
• Preparing intravenous therapy administration equipment.
• Preparing a range of devices to maintain the patient’s airway (e.g., laryngeal mask, endotracheal tube).
• Communicating with patients when they arrive in the operating theatre.
• Establishing peripheral intravenous access.
• Applying anesthesia monitoring to assess the patient’s condition during anesthesia. This includes ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and possibly anesthesia depth monitors (EEG, bispectral index).
• Inducing and maintaining adequate anesthesia by injecting medicines under the supervision of an anesthetist.
• Establishing and securing an airway.
• Positioning patients to prevent discomfort or injury during the procedure.
• Monitoring vital signs, anesthesia depth, and temperature.
• Collecting blood samples for analysis when required.
• Administering intravenous fluids, blood, and blood products as per anesthetist orders.
• Waking the patient after anesthesia.
• Removing airway devices.
• Transferring patients to post‑operative care units.

• Intra‑operative aortic balloon pump setup, operation, and monitoring.
• Swan‑Ganz pulmonary artery catheter insertion and monitoring.
• Intra‑operative blood salvage setup, operation, and monitoring.
• Arterial blood gas analysis, including maintenance of analyzers.
• Arterial line insertion and monitoring.
• Peripheral IV line insertion.
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Central IV lines.
• TEG sampling.
• Auto transfusion.

• Anesthetic Technician certificate.
• Current license to practice in Dubai, UAE.
• Minimum 2 years experience after qualification.
• Fluent in spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic is an advantage.
