Costing Analyst

Hospitals make big decisions on gut feel more often than they'd like to admit. CBS exists to change that.

This is a technical role 'll build and maintain the SQL Server datasets that sit underneath our clients' costing. You'll work with hospital teams to understand their data, then use CBS's own tools, Cost Pro, Intel Plus and Focus Pro, to turn a pile of numbers into costing models and dashboards that mean something to the people running the hospital.

The role is based in Abu Dhabi. You'll work alongside our existing colleague in the region and report to our Team Leader, Middle East, who is currently based in New Zealand.

Costing and Business Solutions has spent thirty years putting better information in front of hospital managers. We work with the Microsoft stack to deliver Activity Based Costing, data warehousing, dashboards and business intelligence to hospitals across New Zealand, Australia and the Middle East.

No two weeks look the same. You'll work across a number of hospitals rather than inside one finance team, and what each one needs from you is different. There's travel to clients elsewhere in the Middle East, and the prospect of time in New Zealand and Australia with the wider CBS team.

You'll be the second CBS person on the ground here, so you'll be visible and you'll have a real say in how we do things. We expect the regional team to grow, and over time to be led from here rather than from New Zealand.

We are looking for solid SQL capability, an analytical mind, the confidence to work directly with client teams, and the ability to explain your work clearly to both technical and non-technical people. Costing experience is a bonus but if you have the other skills we can teach you that.

• At least two years hands-on with Microsoft SQL Server. You should be confident writing and troubleshooting T-SQL, including multi-table joins, aggregation, common table expressions and window functions, and comfortable working with ETL processes and large datasets.
• A clear analytical mind. You keep going when the answer isn't obvious, and you don't stop at the first explanation that fits.
• You can talk to the IT team, the finance team and hospital management, and be understood by all three. One week you're hooking ETL processes up to a hospital's source systems, the next you're sitting with a manager explaining what the data is telling them. This is not a back-office role.
• Activity based costing experience is useful but we don't expect it. We'll train you in the methodology.
• No fear of learning new systems. You'll get on top of CBS's own products quickly, and you'll need to find your way around our clients' source systems. Some of those come up again and again, others will be new to you.
• Some interest in or exposure to the health sector. Good to have rather than required.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, Commerce or Accounting, or the equivalent in practical experience.
