Job Title: API Platform Engineer
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Experience: 6-10+ Years
Job SummaryWe are looking for an experienced API Platform Engineer to manage and operate enterprise API platforms supporting digital banking and financial services. The role involves API gateway administration, banking API management, security implementation, platform automation and lifecycle management to enable secure and reusable banking capabilities across digital channels and partner integrations.
Key Responsibilities- Administer and manage API gateways and developer portals.
- Onboard, configure and publish modular banking APIs aligned with BIAN standards.
- Implement API security mechanisms, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, JWT and access policies.
- Manage API versions, products, subscriptions, policies and the complete API lifecycle.
- Implement API monitoring, observability, analytics, throttling and monetisation controls where applicable.
- Automate platform configuration and deployment using CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Troubleshoot API integration, connectivity, performance and security issues.
- Maintain API policies, technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Use approved AI-assisted engineering tools for policy generation, troubleshooting, documentation and operational analysis.
- Collaborate with architecture, development, security and infrastructure teams to maintain reliable and secure API services.
- Support open banking initiatives and API integrations across digital banking channels, branches, contact centres and external partners.
Skills and Qualifications
- 6-10+ years of experience in banking API management or enterprise API platform engineering.
- Experience in core banking or digital banking transformation.
- Working knowledge of BIAN APIs and banking service domains.
- Hands-on experience with Kong, Apigee or Azure API Management
. - Strong knowledge of OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, OAuth 2.0, OIDC and JWT.
- Knowledge of mutual TLS (mTLS), API security and access control policies.
- Experience with Kubernetes or Open Shift.
- Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
- Experience in API lifecycle management, monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with approved AI engineering tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience in open banking or open finance platforms.
- Knowledge of BIAN architecture and banking integration patterns.
- Relevant certifications in API management, cloud platforms or security.
