Manager – Field Maintenance
The Manager – Field Maintenance is responsible for leading the execution of maintenance activities in one of four key areas:
Red Side Maintenance, White Side Maintenance, Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance, Shift Pump Maintenance. The role ensures safe, reliable and cost‑effective maintenance execution to maximize equipment availability, support production targets and maintain compliance with all regulatory, quality and safety standards. Success in this role will be demonstrated by high equipment reliability, reduced downtime, adherence to budget and improved team capability in supporting continuous refinery operations.
Accountabilities
- Policies, Processes and Procedures – Implement and ensure compliance with all maintenance policies, procedures and standards. Drive adherence to statutory and legislative requirements e.g., MOHRE, API codes, electrical safety standards. Authorize and implement improvements to procedures, ensuring alignment with EGA’s reliability and safety strategy.
- Budget – Manage maintenance budgets across all refinery areas, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to maximize equipment availability. Support planning and optimisation of major shutdown budgets and resources to minimise production losses and costs. Ensure cost control in day‑to‑day operations and contract workforce utilisation.
- Day‑to‑Day Maintenance Execution – Oversee daily preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance for pumps, mechanical systems, electrical instrumentation and refinery process equipment. Ensure shift teams are properly resourced, briefed and supervised to deliver planned and emergency work safely and efficiently. Monitor schedule adherence, review deviations and approve changes to ensure minimal disruption to operations. Ensure availability of spares and materials for critical assets.
- Inspections & Equipment Integrity – Ensure compliance with inspection programmes for pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment and E&I systems. Drive proactive condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques to avoid unplanned downtime. Lead inspection and repair activities during planned and unplanned shutdowns, ensuring compliance with API and other relevant standards.
- Collaboration & Networking – Coordinate closely with Reliability, Operations and Major Maintenance teams to align maintenance execution with refinery priorities. Lead effective communication between maintenance supervisors, contractors and cross‑functional teams. Support RCA investigations and ensure corrective preventive actions are effectively executed.
- People Management – Manage, mentor and develop supervisors and technicians across all maintenance areas. Ensure training and upskilling of team members to reduce dependency on contractors and support cross‑skilling initiatives. Drive a culture of safety, ownership and continuous improvement across the maintenance workforce.
- Continuous Improvement – Implement lean maintenance practices to optimise resource use, reduce downtime and improve reliability. Promote digital tools e.g., CMMS, inspection apps for better planning, reporting and tracking. Continuously challenge and improve maintenance strategies to deliver cost savings and higher reliability.
- Safety, Quality & Environment – Lead by example in driving EGA’s safety culture and ensuring compliance with life‑saving rules. Ensure maintenance work is executed safely with proper permits, risk assessments and quality checks. Maintain accountability for environmental compliance in all maintenance activities.
- Related Assignments – Perform other related duties or assignments as directed.
Operating within defined policies, budgets and objectives, the Manager is authorised to approve deviations from maintenance plans and allocate resources as required. The role directly influences production reliability and refinery throughput through maintenance decisions.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering OR High School diploma/trade certification with extensive refinery maintenance experience.
- Minimum 5–8 years of maintenance experience in heavy industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory/management role.
- Experience in alumina refinery or similar continuous‑process operations is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of pump systems, refinery mechanical equipment and E&I systems is essential.
- Strong understanding of refinery equipment (rotating, static, pumps, conveyors, electrical & instrumentation).
- Proficiency in maintenance planning systems (SAP or CMMS).
- Knowledge of API inspection codes and preventive/predictive maintenance practices.
- Excellent leadership, team management and contractor management skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving ability.
