The Commercial Manager will provide end-to-end commercial oversight for a complex rail systems package. The position requires extensive infrastructure or rail program experience, strong contract knowledge, and the ability to manage commercial decisions across multiple technical and delivery interfaces.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with project objectives, the delivery model, and contractual obligations.
- Lead full lifecycle contract administration, including variations, claims management, and change control governance.
- Negotiate with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to secure value-for-money outcomes and manage commercial exposure.
- Monitor budgets, forecasts, commitments, earned value, cost control, and cash management.
- Ensure supply chain activities comply with procurement policies, legal requirements, and relevant standards.
- Work with Engineering, Procurement, and Project Controls teams to align scope, schedule, cost, and risk.
- Support configuration and interface management across rail systems.
- Lead commercial risk identification, quantification, mitigation, and opportunity tracking while supporting contingency management.
- Prepare commercial reports, dashboards, recommendations, and presentations for senior management and project stakeholders.
- Build, mentor, and manage commercial teams while promoting consistent procedures and commercial practices.
The role covers commercial management across signaling, telecommunications, electrification and traction power, and rolling stock interfaces. Effective delivery requires the ability to operate across interconnected technical packages while maintaining control of contractual obligations, changes, claims, costs, and commercial risks.
Qualifications and Experience- Bachelor 's degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 15 years of commercial management experience on large-scale infrastructure or rail programs.
- Proven experience delivering high-speed rail or complex rail systems.
- Experience involving systems such as signaling, telecommunications, electrification or traction power, and rolling stock interfaces.
- Strong working knowledge of FIDIC, NEC, or similar contract frameworks.
- Practical knowledge of contract change and claims processes.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with project stakeholders.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments and matrix organizations.
