Role Purpose

The Training Manager helps translate business and service expectations into practical employee development programs. Working with operational leaders and employees, the role identifies performance gaps, supports targeted learning interventions, evaluates whether training is being applied in daily operations, and contributes to continuous improvement in guest service.

Employee Training Programs

  • Promote available training programs and keep employees informed about learning opportunities.
  • Support ongoing employee training focused on understanding and meeting guest expectations.
  • Help employees identify specific behaviors that contribute to service excellence.
  • Apply effective training methods that strengthen understanding of guest satisfaction principles.
  • Meet regularly with the training cadre to coordinate and support training activities.
  • Observe employee service behaviors and provide appropriate feedback to individuals or managers.
  • Demonstrate leadership in guest hospitality and model excellent customer service.
  • Help create a positive environment for guest relations.
Training Evaluation and Effectiveness

A key part of the role is determining whether learning activities produce measurable improvements in employee performance and hotel operations.

  • Monitor enrollment and attendance for training classes.
  • Meet with training participants to assess progress and address concerns.
  • Partner with operational leaders to evaluate employee technical and leadership skills.
  • Review guest comment cards, satisfaction results, and other available information to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Measure how effectively learning from training courses transfers into daily operations.
  • Ensure adult learning principles are incorporated into training programs.
  • Use evaluation findings to support appropriate changes to training methods or retraining activities.
Learning and Development Planning

The Training Manager assists in identifying performance gaps and works with managers to develop learning initiatives that address specific operational needs. Current training and development programs are aligned with key business indicators, while targeted training is developed to improve service performance. The role also helps establish clear guidelines so employees understand performance expectations and operating parameters. Guest satisfaction remains an important component of development activities and departmental discussions, supporting an ongoing focus on service improvement.

Training

Budget Support
  • Assist with development of the Training budget as required.
  • Help manage the budget in alignment with Human Resources and property financial objectives.
  • Monitor controllable departmental expenses against established budget goals.
  • Use the P-card when appropriate to control and monitor departmental expenditures.
Candidate Profile

Candidate Profile Candidates may qualify through either of the following education and experience pathways:

  • A 2-year degree from an accredited university in Human Resources, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related major, together with 1 year of experience in Human Resources or a related professional area and certified trainer status. OR A 4-year bachelor 's degree in Human Resources, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related major, together with certified trainer status.

    No work experience is required under this pathway.
