Welder

Responsibilities

• Uses blueprints, templates, jigs and other guides to prepare, modify, or fabricate metal items.
• Performs welding and cutting activities using electric, gas and inert gas shielded welding and cutting processes.
• Includes material planning and the physical layout, positioning, clamping and heating of metal with temperature control.
• Ensures processes comply with ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
• Leads learning, understands and complies with applicable health, safety and environment directives.
• Participates in the development of a safe and healthy working environment.
• Ensures compliance with all company policies, manuals, procedures and work instructions.
• Performs welding and cutting activities using various materials including mild steel, aluminium, stainless steel and other non‑ferrous metals based on engineering specifications.
• Works with light, heavy gauge and hardened metals, welding in flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead positions.
• Executes welds and cuts from simple to precision and recommends alternative methods when design characteristics cannot be met.
• Performs welding work layout, plan operation sequence, set up parameters and operate specialised welding equipment.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, technical diagrams and schematics for sheet metal forms according to part specifications.
• Complies with all safety, housekeeping and environmental directives.
• Maintains equipment via user preventive maintenance.
• Ensures all issued tools, uniforms and PPE are accounted for, maintained and secured.
• Maintains confidentiality and security of all company information.
• Supports other members of the Fabrication Workshop in fulfilling roles.
• Performs other duties as required by line manager and Fabrication Manager.

• Previous experience using MIG, TIG and Plasma welding and cutting equipment is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and SAP is preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
