ABOUT THE ROLE- Set up and operate heat treatment furnaces and associated equipment including induction hardening machine safely and efficiently.
- Carry out the heat treatment processes such as hardening (surface, through), tempering, quenching, annealing, normalizing, stress relieving, preheating and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) etc.
- Monitor furnace temperature, heating rate, soaking time, cooling rate, and quenching parameters and maintain the record of actual process parameters.
- Perform heat treatment of carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium alloys and other applicable ferrous and nonferrous material’s components/ parts manufactured through casting, welding, machining, forging etc.
- Select appropriate heat treatment cycles based on material type and grade, component specification, and process instructions.
- Monitor components for distortion, cracking, excessive oxidation, discoloration and other defects after treatment and coordinate with the concerned team when heat treatment results indicate casting, welding, machining related issues.
- Verify hardness against drawing, specification, or inspection requirements and conformance of finished components/ parts using conventional or digital precision measuring instruments.
- Prepare and maintain the complete and traceable records of heat treatment related data and reports.
- Identify and obtain all required consumables, tools and materials.
- Assist in Foundry operations and casting processes such as sand mold casting, die casting, mold preparation, pattern making, melting, pouring etc.
- Assist the Supervisor, Sheet metal & Foundry and Specialist, heat treatment in job planning and determining the heat treatment requirements and work procedures.
- Arrange for adequate amount of the raw materials needed for heat treatment including proper equipment and safe heat treatment operations.
- Maintain equipment by completing user preventive maintenance requirements.
- Comply with all safety, housekeeping and environmental directives.
- Ensure all issued tools, uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is accounted for, maintained and secured.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of all company information.
- Required to report Engineering Department operational risks and follow AL TAIF approved procedures for risks.
- Support other members of the Fabrication Workshop in fulfilling their roles.
- Perform other duties as required by their line manager and the Manager, Fabrication.
- A high school diploma is required; a college diploma or Heat treatment/ foundry techniques training certification is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of experience as a technician, heat treatment is required; with experience in heat treatment for ferrous and non-ferrous metal parts/ components is required.
- Previous military or automotive industry, foundry experience is an advantage.
- The ability to lift, carry and push items weighing over 20kg is required.
