Charge Nurse - Critical Care

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise ICU nursing staff during assigned shifts.
• Ensure optimal care for critically ill patients, including ventilated and hemodynamically unstable cases.
• Assign patient loads based on acuity, staffing levels, and nurse competencies.
• Monitor patient conditions and intervene or escalate clinical concerns as needed.
• Oversee the use and management of critical care equipment: ventilators, infusion pumps, monitors.
• Coordinate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
• Manage ICU admissions, transfers, and discharges efficiently.
• Respond to emergencies, including code blue situations, and support resuscitation efforts.
• Ensure adherence to infection control policies and patient safety standards.
• Handle patient and family concerns with professionalism and empathy.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives audits and accreditation processes e g JCI.
• Mentor and support junior nurses and newly hired ICU staff.
