Job Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care within a detoxification and rehabilitation environment. The role involves assessing patient needs, monitoring withdrawal symptoms, administering medications, and supporting individuals throughout the detox and recovery process. The nurse plays a key role in maintaining a structured, therapeutic, and supportive environment that promotes patient safety, dignity, and wellbeing.
Duties and Responsibilities1. Patient Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments upon patient admission.
- Monitor patients for withdrawal symptoms and clinical changes.
- Record and track vital signs and patient observations regularly.
- Escalate clinical concerns promptly to physicians or senior nurses.
- Update and maintain individualized patient care plans.
- Safely administer medications in accordance with physician orders.
- Monitor patients for medication reactions or side effects.
- Maintain accurate medication administration records.
- Ensure adherence to medication safety and controlled drug protocols.
- Participate in medication reconciliation during admission and discharge.
- Monitor and document withdrawal symptoms using approved clinical tools.
- Support medical detoxification protocols as directed by physicians.
- Provide clinical care to manage withdrawal-related complications.
- Ensure patient safety during acute withdrawal phases.
- Support patient stabilization prior to transition into rehabilitation programs.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Report incidents, risks or adverse events in accordance with policy.
- Participate in safety audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of medical supplies and equipment.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Communicate patient status effectively during shift handovers.
- Coordinate care with physicians, psychologists and therapists.
- Support patient admission, transfer and discharge processes.
- Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of patient information.
- Provide compassionate care and emotional support to patients.
- Encourage patient participation in treatment and recovery programs.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions and training sessions.
- Contribute to maintaining a respectful and recovery-focused environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience following qualification, as required under the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR).
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license or be eligible for licensure with DOH – Abu Dhabi.
- Experience in acute care, mental health, rehabilitation, detoxification or behavioral health settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in patient assessment, medication administration and clinical monitoring.
- Familiarity with withdrawal management protocols and patient stabilization in detox or rehabilitation environments is an advantage.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, psychologists and therapists.
- Strong understanding of infection control, patient safety standards and clinical documentation practices.
- Ability to work in shift-based clinical environments, including nights and weekends where required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing) from an accredited and recognized institution.
- Qualification must meet the standards set by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi under the Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR).
- Must be eligible for DOH licensure as a Registered Nurse in Abu Dhabi.
