Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and offer advice and emotional support to patients and their families.
- Assess and identify patients’ needs and implement and monitor the patient’s medical plan and treatment.
- Collaborate with physicians, other healthcare specialists, and allied health professionals across various settings.
- Perform systematic patient assessment and re‑assessment, collecting pertinent data on the patient’s health or situation.
- Understand and analyze assessment data.
- Determine nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
- Define predicted and expected outcomes for the patient’s planned care.
- Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team in collaboration with the patient and bystanders.
- Record vital signs, recognize and address abnormalities.
- Maintain and update technical and clinical nursing skills.
- Employ strategies to promote patient health and a safe environment.
- Understand diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.
- Perform and start phototherapy as per physician orders, interpreting bilirubin results and acting accordingly.
- Perform essential life support per regulatory requirements, including Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation.
- Prepare patients for medical examinations and treatment.
- Administer medications and monitor patients for side effects and reactions.
- Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor for reactions.
- Provide wound care management.
- Assist in medical procedures, invasive or non‑invasive, as needed.
- Facilitate safe patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Monitor and assess health status of mothers and babies, including vital signs, fetal heart rate, contractions, and postpartum recovery.
- Educate and support expectant mothers and their families on prenatal care, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, midwives, and other professionals, to ensure coordinated care.
- Administer newborn vaccinations and other treatments as prescribed.
- Conduct newborn screening per DOH recommendations.
- Perform newborn baths as required.
- Provide emotional support and counselling to expectant mothers and families, addressing concerns and answering questions.
- Respond to emergencies and provide immediate care, including CPR and other lifesaving measures.
- Perform CTG monitoring, interpret findings, and recognize when to involve the obstetrician.
- Support, promote, and protect the ten steps of the WHO Mother‑Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative during antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and newborn periods.
- Maintain essential life support per regulatory requirements, including Basic Life Support, PROMPT CTG, and Neonatal Resuscitation.
- Provide bereavement support, advice, and compassion for parents during end‑of‑life care related to congenital birth defects, loss of pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death.
- Appropriate license to work as a registered nurse with the relevant regulatory health authority.
- Comprehensive experience and qualifications mandated by the authority.
- Manage professional re‑licensure independently.
- Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
- Willingness to work across departments when necessary.
- Clear and effective communication skills in English (spoken and written).
- Evidence of ability to work as part of an inter‑professional team.
- Organizational and administrative skills for using the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
- Effective communication skills in Arabic.
