Position: Senior Charge Nurse - (Madinat Zayed Hospital)

Job Description

Responsible for leading all nurses in an operational context within a unit/ward. Ensures bed allocation and skill mix are appropriate for patient condition and takes a lead role in coordinating hospital services during shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for the nursing team within the ward/unit and report all issues to the senior charge nurse or unit manager.
  • Collaborate with personnel from non‑nursing departments on issues that may negatively impact patient care, facilitating solutions as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary or interdepartmental committees and task forces; chair, co‑chair or lead such groups as required.
  • Facilitate effective patient flow using bed capacity and staffing resources appropriately.
  • Monitor and review staff skill mix and, in accordance with patient acuity, align staffing and workload using available information.
  • Build relationships with staff, peers and colleagues to support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental planning aimed at improving patient outcomes.
  • Promote continuity of care that is patient‑centered, outcome‑oriented and focused on discharge planning.
  • Ensure nursing documentation quality standards are maintained according to organisational policy.
  • Perform hospital rounds to assess, identify problems, determine solutions and guide teams in clinical and operational management of services.
  • Liaise effectively with other health‑care providers both internal and external to the organization, maintaining confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with policy.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, families and the interdisciplinary health‑care team as required.
  • Communicate with all unit(s) and departments to maximise efficiency and expedite admission, transfer and discharge processes.
  • Use information technology to access, transmit and produce information as necessary.
  • Support a culture of performance improvement, monitoring and evaluating the quality of nursing care provided.
  • Actively participate in accreditation activities and audit compliance with organisational documentation standards.
  • Support implementation of evidence‑based practice to promote clinical knowledge and a research‑based clinical practice environment.
  • Monitor and support organisational Key Performance Indicators and Clinical Indicators, reinforcing corrective action to improve clinical service.
  • Coordinate, monitor and report incidents occurring within the organization after business hours, facilitating corrective or preventative action as required.
  • Minimise exposure to infection/cross‑infection of patients, staff, visitors and the general public, ensuring staff adheres to infection control policies.
  • Monitor compliance with International and HAAD Patient Safety Goals.
  • Support staff in providing a suitable environment for patient and family learning and engage in health promotion activities in the organization and community.
  • Identify and utilise mechanisms to assist in development of managerial and leadership skills, including internal educational resources and external agencies.
  • Develop and achieve annual performance criteria/goals in conjunction with the line manager, maintaining and updating professional development through relevant educational activities and a portfolio.
  • Take appropriate action and report to the appropriate manager when staff behaviour or performance do not meet professional standards.
  • Use human resources, consumables and equipment efficiently and effectively.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6 years clinical experience in an appropriate and relevant healthcare setting post‑qualification.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a Senior Charge Nurse (S.C.N.) position, OR minimum of 3 years in a Charge Nurse position.
