Job Purpose
The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body.
The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.
- Assessment and Diagnosis
- Collect and analyze assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues.
- Assess comprehensive data (physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs) and interpret assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues as defined by the patient's condition.
- Use evidence-based assessment techniques and instruments to collect data and validate the diagnosis or issue with the patient, family and healthcare team members.
- Prioritize the data based on the patient’s immediate condition or anticipated needs, identify potential risks or barriers to health or safety.
- Document the data and information collected in compliance with established guidelines.
- Planning and Outcomes Identification
- Identify expected outcomes and develop a plan addressing health promotion, restoration and maintenance.
- Involve patient, family and health team in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care.
- Apply evidence-based nursing practices to attain expected outcomes and achieve continuity of care.
- Modify the plan according to ongoing assessment and reevaluation of the patient’s status.
- Document measurable goals using standardized language or recognized terminology.
- Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery
- Implement the plan of care in partnership with patient, family and healthcare team in a timely manner.
- Perform treatments and procedures per procedural guidelines and protocols.
- Administer medications per organization policies and procedures.
- Ensure documentation of all components of the individualized plan, including modifications.
- Communicate relevant information across all levels of care and organizations.
- Demonstrate resource consumption knowledge within a cost‑effective framework.
- Health Teaching and Health Promotion
- Utilize teaching strategies appropriate to patient’s condition and learning needs.
- Use health promotion to support patients and families in developing skills that promote, maintain, or restore healthy lifestyles.
- Seek opportunities for feedback and evaluation of effectiveness, including teach‑back.
- Document all components of health education relevant to the clinical condition.
- Evaluation
- Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Assess patient/family understanding and response to the plan of care.
- Use assessment data to revise diagnoses, outcomes, and plan of care.
- Involve patient, family and team in evaluation.
- Provide comprehensive clinical handover/report for patient safety.
- Attend patient care rounds, communicate and update attending provider on changes.
- Communicate ongoing changes with the care team and unit activity.
- Document reassessment of status and rationale for plan revisions.
- Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
- Integrate evidence and research into practice.
- Participate in evidence‑based and research activities appropriate to nurse’s education and position.
- Share findings with healthcare team.
- Participate in performance improvement projects.
- Leadership
- Demonstrate leadership behaviors, promote positive, team‑based, safe work environment.
- Coordinate and supervise delegated activities, serve as resource for team.
- Demonstrate critical thinking in priority setting and decision‑making.
- Pursue informal and formal leadership opportunities.
- Participate in organizational shared decision‑making to improve nursing practice and outcomes.
- Supervise practical nurses, junior staff and student nurses to ensure safe patient care.
