Staff Nurse-Tower D5- Medical Intensive Care Unit; MICU
Job Purpose
The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body.
The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.
The Staff Nurse will coordinate nursing care and provide age‑appropriate patient care, support education and transitions of care in alignment with the Nursing Scope of Practice and professional conduct standards.
Responsibilities- Assessment and Diagnosis
- Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis, issues.
- Assesses comprehensive data including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs.
- Uses evidence‑based assessment techniques and instruments.
- Prioritizes data based on patient condition and identifies potential risks.
- Documents data in compliance with guidelines.
- Planning and Outcomes Identification
- Identifies expected outcomes and develops a care plan addressing promotion, restoration, and maintenance.
- Involves patient, family, and team in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan.
- Applies evidence‑based nursing practices to attain outcomes.
- Modifies plan based on ongoing assessment.
- Documents measurable goals using standardized language.
- Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery
- Implements the plan of care in partnership with patient, family, and team.
- Performs treatments and procedures per procedural guidelines.
- Administers medications per policies.
- Documents all components of the plan and modifications.
- Communicates relevant information across all levels of care.
- Demonstrates cost‑effective resource use knowledge.
- Health Teaching and Health Promotion
- Utilizes appropriate teaching strategies for patient condition and learning needs.
- Promotes healthy lifestyles and self‑management support.
- Seeks feedback and evaluates effectiveness of strategies.
- Documents education in patient health record.
- Evaluation
- Evaluates progress toward outcomes.
- Assesses patient/family understanding and response to care plan.
- Revises diagnosis, outcomes, and plan using new assessment data.
- Involves patient, family, and team in evaluation.
- Provides comprehensive clinical handover/report for safety.
- Attends patient care rounds and updates provider on changes.
- Communicates ongoing changes to care team.
- Documents reassessment and rationale for plan revisions.

- Minimum 2 years clinical experience post‑qualification in appropriate setting.
- Experience requirement waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities after internship.
- Required:
Bachelor degree in nursing OR - Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) AND Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia AND valid/current national license AND BLS.
- Desired: ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.
