Job Description
Understands, supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of the Organization. Provides age appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. Adheres to and promotes the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. Promotion of health and delivery of health education.
Responsibilities- Leadership - Demonstrates a professional commitment to patients and fellow health care professionals. Demonstrates sound critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving ability. Promotes and supports a collaborative practice model. Promotes an interdisciplinary team approach based on mutual respect and direct communication between health professionals. Participates in annual performance reviews of self and others. Acts as a role model and mentor to fellow nursing staff.
Actively participates in organizational change in a constructive manner. Supervises practical nurses and practical midwives, junior staff and student nurses to ensure safe and effective patient care. Acts as a preceptor to new staff as required. Performs in‑charge duties as delegated. - Clinical Practice - Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the organization’s policy and procedures and the unit scope of service. Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice and does not carry out tasks beyond level of competence. Utilizes evidence‑based practice. Coordinates individualized care from first contact through the episode of care, including discharge planning.
Identifies significant changes in patient conditions, initiates appropriate action, and reports to the supervisor or physician. Prioritizes patient care based on ongoing assessment. Participates in the referral process and utilizes available resources for comprehensive care. Demonstrates service excellence and acts as a patient advocate. Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding and appreciation of cross‑cultural differences. Collaborates to provide patient and family‑centered care.
Administers medications according to policies. Evaluates patient response and initiates appropriate action. Respects Ministry of Health and HA‑AD narcotic policies. Reports adverse drug reactions and medication errors. Responds to all levels of emergencies. Demonstrates a working knowledge of resource consumption and cost‑effective practice. - Communication - Maintains confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organization information. Responsible for documentation and use of IT and electronic medical records. Facilitates effective communication with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team. Liaises with other providers to ensure timely interventions and discharge planning. Actively participates in meetings, rounds, and case conferences. Provides comprehensive clinical handover. Ensures nursing documentation complies with policies.
Reflects a systematic and accurate assessment of all patient care events. Establishes and maintains professional boundaries. - Performance Improvement / Risk Management - Participates in quality improvement activities, development, implementation, and review of standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Monitors and evaluates unit operation to correct problems and improve systems. Participates in interdisciplinary teams and improvement projects. Contributes to the culture of patient safety. Ensures a clean and safe environment, identifies defective equipment, and reports it. Complies with International and HAAD patient safety goals.
Promotes infection control policies. Identifies, manages, and reports incidents with appropriate documentation. - Education - Assesses patient and family education needs, plans and provides education, and evaluates outcomes. Provides an environment that supports learning. Supplies comprehensive information and resources. Engages in health promotion activities.
