Job Purpose

The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body.

The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Staff Nurse will perform the following responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data, including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs, to determine diagnosis or issues. Uses evidence-based assessment techniques, prioritizes data, and documents findings in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes and develops an individualized plan of care addressing health promotion, restoration, and maintenance. Involves patient, family, and team in plan formulation, applies evidence-based practices, and documents measurable goals using standardized terminology.
  • Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implements the plan in partnership with the patient and team, performs treatments and procedures per protocols, administers medications, and ensures all components are documented. Communicates information across all levels of care and demonstrates cost-effective resource use.
  • Health Teaching and Health Promotion: Utilizes appropriate teaching strategies, supports patients and families in developing healthy lifestyles, seeks feedback on effectiveness, and documents education in the health record.
  • Evaluation: Evaluates progress toward outcomes, revises diagnoses and plans using ongoing assessment data, involves patient, family, and team, and provides comprehensive handover reports.
  • Evidence-based Practice and Research: Integrates current evidence and research into practice, participates in research and improvement projects, and shares findings with the health team.
  • Leadership: Demonstrates professional role modeling, coordinates delegated activities, applies critical thinking, pursues leadership opportunities, and participates in shared decision-making. Supervises practical nurses and junior staff to ensure safe, effective patient care.
  • Accountabilities:
    • Applies principles of professional ethics ensuring patient rights.
    • Maintains a therapeutic nurse‑patient relationship and acts as an advocate.
    • Questions unsafe practices and reports misconduct as required.
    • Evaluates nursing practice against professional standards.
    • Considers cost, environmental health, and impact when choosing options.
    • Uses current resources and electronic tools for information retrieval.
    • Evaluates patient safety, effectiveness, availability, and cost in decisions.
    • Promotes a practice environment that reduces environmental health risks for staff.
    • Communicates environmental health risks and mitigation strategies.
    • Commitment to continuous learning, education, and mentoring of team members.
    • Responds to emergencies per organizational policy and procedure.
QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Required: NLT 2 years clinical experience post qualification in an appropriate setting (experience requirement waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities after internship completion).
  • Desired: N.A.

Educational

Qualification:

  • Required: Bachelor degree in nursing OR Degree in Nursing (minimum two‑year course duration) AND Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia AND valid/current national license AND BLS certification.
  • Desired: ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.
