Danat Al Emarat is a world‑class specialty women’s and children’s hospital in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It offers advanced medical services across specialties including Neonatology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Women’s Health. The hospital is one of the very few to encompass a dedicated Fetal Medicine Department along with a full‑fledged Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the UAE. This has established Danat Al Emarat as a regional referral center for women with high‑risk pregnancies, supported by its Level III NICU providing care for the most fragile newborns.

A Registered Nurse (Postnatal) provides comprehensive nursing care to mothers and newborns during the postpartum period, ensuring a safe and smooth transition from childbirth to recovery. The role involves monitoring maternal and neonatal health, supporting breastfeeding and infant care, providing patient education, administering medications and treatments, and identifying any complications requiring medical intervention. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the Postnatal Registered Nurse promotes the physical and emotional well‑being of both mother and baby while delivering compassionate, evidence‑based care in accordance with healthcare standards and best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and monitor the physical condition of mothers following childbirth, including vital signs, pain levels, uterine involution, and postpartum recovery.
  • Monitor newborn health status, including feeding, weight, temperature, elimination patterns, and overall well‑being.
  • Identify and promptly report any maternal or neonatal complications such as postpartum hemorrhage, infection, jaundice, or respiratory distress.
  • Provide breastfeeding support and education, assisting mothers with proper positioning, latching techniques, and feeding schedules.
  • Educate parents on newborn care, including bathing, cord care, safe sleep practices, and recognizing signs of illness.
  • Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and immunizations in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies.
  • Support mothers emotionally and assess their psychological well‑being, including screening for postpartum depression and anxiety.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Promote infection prevention and maintain a safe environment for mothers, newborns, families, and staff.
  • Prepare mothers and families for discharge by providing education on self‑care, newborn care, medication management, and follow‑up appointments.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies involving mothers or newborns and initiate appropriate interventions when required.
  • Advocate for patients’ needs and ensure care is delivered in a compassionate, respectful, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence‑based nursing practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • DOH/DHA/MOH RN license
