Responsibilities

• Ensure and oversee that all patient care in the unit is safe, appropriate, and effective.
• Determine nursing interventions based on assessment data, prioritize identified needs, and implement nursing actions while evaluating patient outcomes.
• Develop or revise the plan of care and deliver identified patient needs.
• Coordinate overall clinical activities of the unit when assigned to the charge nurse role.
• Collaborate with the Nursing Supervisor on staffing for each shift.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate clinical programs.
• Assess the ability of patients and their families to understand and participate in decisions about their care.
• Facilitate patient education.
• Maintain accurate, real‑time clinical records.
• Perform advanced or specialized nursing skills competently.
• Act as a clinical resource for staff within the department.
• Communicate and consult with other health care disciplines.
• Represent nursing at multidisciplinary rounds.
• Perform essential life support, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRS).
• Participate in the development of standards, procedures, and protocols.
• Facilitate evidence‑based practice and promote change in nursing practice when required.
• Take a proactive role under the guidance of Nursing Management.
• Promote a safe learning environment and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Triage patients of all ages—including pediatric, adult, and pregnant patients—and determine the appropriate triage level.
• Assist with emergency procedures such as endotracheal intubation, central venous and arterial catheterization, intercostal drain placement, and intraosseous needle insertion.
• Administer emergency medications and perform ACLS interventions, including defibrillation, cardioversion, and medication administration to stabilize patients with life‑threatening cardiac arrhythmias or acute myocardial infarctions.
• Collaborate with emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, and other health‑care professionals to develop comprehensive care plans, coordinate diagnostics, and facilitate timely patient disposition to appropriate units.
• Operate and monitor emergency medical equipment to support patient care and ensure accurate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
• Participate in disaster preparedness drills, trauma resuscitations, and Code Blue activations, following established emergency protocols and maintaining competency in emergency nursing skills.
• Conduct board rounds meetings and monitor and improve departmental KPIs.
• Manage and oversee the daily operations of the emergency department and supervise nursing staff, providing guidance and training as needed.
• Handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently and actively participate in rounds to ensure equipment is properly checked.
• Regularly review staff profiles to verify completion of required emergency‑related training (BLS, ACLS, PALS, triage courses) and coordinate additional training as needed.
• Allocate staff to each area based on departmental needs—Resuscitation, Observation, Triage, and Plaster Room—and manage shifts accordingly.
• Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to address departmental challenges and implement improvements that enhance patient care and staff satisfaction.

• Evidence of managing teams and influencing and implementing change when necessary.
• Strong decision‑making and effective communication skills.
• Appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory authority with all required qualifications and experience.
• Self‑management of professional re‑licensure and valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
• Willingness to work across departments when required.
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written) for clear and effective communication.
