Job Title
Inspector – Coating & Painting
SalaryF.A.T. will be provided for both onshore and offshore projects.
Reporting & Key RelationshipsOffice:
Department – Abu Dhabi IND. Reporting to the Team Leader.
Key working relationships: IND Manager, Project Manager, Team Leader, Technical Manager, Deputy Technical Manager, Customers, Clients, Project Management Consultants.
MinimumRequired Qualifications
- NACE, CSWIP, British Gas Painting inspector Grade II or an approved equivalent.
- 3‑Year Diploma with more than 12 years industrial QA/QC experience in 3‑LPE coating systems, plus work in coating, painting and insulation.
- 10‑Year Bachelor degree with more than 3 years industrial QA/QC experience in coating, painting and insulation in Oil & Gas.
- Senior Coating & Painting Inspector with 15 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, minimum 5 years in pipe coating and field joint inspection, 3‑LPP and concrete coating experience.
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or HNC.
- Strong knowledge of International Codes and Standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS.
- Review, comment on and approve contractors’ painting, coating and wrapping procedures.
- Carry out inspections of surface profile and chloride contamination tests as per applicable standards.
- Monitor weather and equipment conditions during painting/coating operations.
- Ensure paint materials are sourced from approved manufacturers with valid pot life.
- Ensure coating application follows the manufacturer’s technical data‑sheet and approved painting specifications.
- Verify proper time intervals between intermediate coats for chemical and mechanical bonding.
- Witness and check dry film thickness and holiday detection; detect pin holes.
- Ensure calibrated testing equipment is used and surface preparation is monitored.
- Apply bonding agent, elastomer, wrapping and curing operations for Neoprene coating on riser pipes.
- Witness post‑curing tests such as hardness, spark test, sound test, adhesion test, visual and dimensional checks on riser pipes and clamps.
- Monitor surface preparation, application of CTE coating and post‑curing tests on pipelines.
- Monitor application of heat‑shrink sleeves and conduct holiday tests on field joints.
- Monitor wrapping Servi Wrap M30 B and conduct holiday detection and doping on offshore pipelines.
- Conduct all activities within the inspector’s field of competency and select the most appropriate inspection technique.
- Approve non‑conformities and corrective actions and identify required Bureau Veritas interventions based on a predefined Quality Plan.
- Review and appraise inspection procedures in alignment with NACE, CSWIP, British Gas Painting standards.
- Strong knowledge of International Codes and Standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, BS.
- Experience with painting/coating inspection according to applicable codes, project specifications and procedures.
- Capability to conduct activities within competency, verify and approve non‑conformities, and recommend corrective actions.
